I am a domain junkie. First step is admitting it right? I thought that instead of me spending so much time in the hand reg of the day thread, I could come over here to the Domains you did not hand reg because of NP community support. This might be just as important for me. Maybe it will at a minimum give you all a nice laugh . . . maybe some support as well!

Great going. Wait ..if I'm right, these are the domains that you didn't register..right?
Yes

But I am about to take a hit . . .

Please humor me for just a moment . . .

If you went to Namebios to check out domain sales and you came across financemanagement.com and it sold for $1200 and financemgt.com was available to hand reg, would you pass?

If you say yes, pass, please explain. It seems everyone has said short short short is better and mgt is shorter than management and mgt is super common.

fwiw the names above are just examples

and then there is that moment when your wife comes home and says mgt is not management, but mgmt is and your enthusiasm goes down the drain! You just know the bankruptcymgmt.com is gone . . . but lo and behold it is available, so you request your first grace delete of bankruptcymgt.com and can now add:

bankruptcymgt.com to the not registered or technically registered awaiting grace deletion thread . . .

Yes everyone says short is better and it is true to some extent but acronyms are quite tricky business.

As a matter of fact your wife is right ..
Mgmt = Management

But a google search for Mgt shows that at some places :
Mgt is Management too

In my opinion, for Management :
Mgmt is better than Mgt but in someone else's opinion it might be exactly opposite and Mgt would be valuable because they know they can sell it.

So to avoid the confusion and hassle what I usually do and would recommend anyone is don't stuff acronyms just to shorten the length of a domain.
At NameBio, You can see domains with more than 20 letters (if they make sense) going for thousands.

And if you still want to use acronyms confirm their validity first because not every time your wife will save you from the hassle :)
And try to stick to valid ones like LTD, DEPT, CORP etc.

Hope I didn't make it more confusing.

Thing is nothing matters if someone have a good budget. They would not might think about a 100 things before registering a single domain. In my case, I can come up with good domain names but due to limited budget I have to pick even one domain carefully, keeping this and that in mind.
So the rules are kinda same but differ from person to person.
All we can do is learn and keep learning.
Good luck! :|

Shorter is not always better. The longer form is more memorable. Abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes (eg inc, corp, now, online,) are usually tricks when the best domains are already taken.
In fact, if a domain is available it is usually for a reason.

Yes, right! Sometimes if its too good to be true then its actually too good to be true.

If a nice looking domain is available then it is not because you are the first one to find it but because simply nobody picked it up.
