Post the letter, taking out any details that would give away information, and see if it is one of the domain scams going around.

If it is enough money, make him pay you through something like escrow.com. If it is less then 100, use paypal.

He's asking for GeneralAutomobiles.com.. I wanted to keep the name since we have a plan to open a car showroom in India. How much do you think I can ask him for the name?

Thx.

Im pretty confident this is an appraisal scam. The "discounted" kind of gives it away. Respond back with price, my guess is he will agree and than ask you to get it appraised by showing you a link of preffered appraisals.

This name was also just regged, nothing really special about it. I think its a total scam. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Im sorry, let me clarify, the offer is bogus. Its a scam. As far as I can tell, looks just like the appraisal scam emails that are all over this forum.

I told you to ask for 10k, because the buyer will agree to the price and then ask for an appraisal. I personally wouldnt pay registration fee for this domain name.

But, if im wrong, someone else in this thread please correct me.

Sounds like a scam to me as well. Reply with the high offer and see what happens. If you get a reply with an appraisal, it will show you, it was a scam. :gl:

If he does accept but says appraisals from afternic or sedo are not accurate, tell him that is his problem, if he wants it, pay your price or go away.

Know harm in emailing more, and in fact, it takes a little bit more of the scammers' time, if in fact that is what you have.
I'd hate to see a legitimate sale lost due to over-sensitivity to scams... and negotiating the price up doesn't fit their pattern exactly...
Not saying it is/isn't a scam, but no harm in pursuing it further.

I've had emails from quite a few scammers offering to buy my domains. But this one is a bit different. The thing that made that a little different is that he/she was asking you whether you have hosting service or not. Most scammers normally ask for more domains that you own. You can email that person back and see what happen. You can always ask some advise here in the forum. NamePros members are actually good in replying in this kind of issue. Keep us updated.

Good luck

i have received such emails too, and oohh boyyy ... i was so happpyyyy jumping up and down. but after doing some google search on the senders email, checking out his company.. and realize it was only a scam. :(

but anyway, yeah i agree with all our fellow members here, just reply his email with your asking price, and good luck, who knows.. probably its true. :)
