That basically depends upon what kind of a site it is but I can suggest you a few general tips on buying an already made website.

Don't overpay for the site. Try to pay a multiple of earnings of the site in recent months.
Checkout the content which is there on the site.
Try to independently evaluate sites traffic from sources like Alexa, Google, and other search engines.
Most important is check if there are any copyright voilations, trademark issues and other restrictions against the site or its owner.

Another thing to be sure about is revenue, if that is why you are buying the site. If someone says it has potential but they haven't tried it I would stay away. Also when you are looking a the stats make sure that they are uniques and also check out the referer. It may be that the reason they have so many uniques is that they did some cheap pop-under advertising. They show as a lot of uniques but usually all come from one or two referers.

Remember all of the traffic was paid, and the only way to keep it up when you buy it is to continue paying.

It depends on what kind of site you are buying.

  • How much is the site quoted at (value)
  • Has it gone up or down in value lately?
  • How high is it ranked on the search engines?
  • What is it's PR?
  • How many unique visitors visit a day/week/month?
  • Can you manage this website?
  • How much time is on the site?

Those are just a few things to look at.

Thanks, Would it be good to look at the referral to make sure the hits is not by traffic exchange programs?
