A friend wants to invest in some domains and I will help then pick some out but I would like to get some advice on where they could use that 5k. We would like to aim at 1 year of holding them and then to get a profit from selling them then. We would prefer a few domains than just one so as not to put all our eggs in one basket.

1-5 generic 2-3 word .coms is always a safe bet.

This may be a good time to show caution.

2 options:

1) For less risky investors: some solid traffic names that have steady traffic and at least 6 months of traffic history, after 1 year you`ll have possibly same value + you earned some good money.

2) For investors with higher grade of risk: get a bunch of LLLL.com , at current values, in a year you may multiply 3 to 4 time the initial investment.

i dont know about 3-4 times but i agree that its a very safe bet. in a year your 5k should at least double. If you choose this option be sure to read up a bit on letter quality

i agree with the optinos Lorenzo gave; however i wouldnt go for a bunch of LLLL dot com; i prefer quality names and after reading threads in regards of LLLL dot com you will be able to choose (if you or your your friend choose investing in them) between a bunch of them or between 10 quad premiums or 2-3 CVCV

good luck

Buy ONE CVCV.com, one like GAPA.com. You will sell it for xx,xxx$ in a year or less.

Definitely two-word descriptive generics with good, steady traffic. IMO, its the safest bet.

I would hunt down a nice LLL.com that's not in use then hold for as many years as it takes to get xx,xxx from an enduser :)

Definitely a .com...maybe a generic of a product or service that holds up well in a recession.

Agreed, there was just a buyout of NNNNN.com's and prices for these have already started to rise following the buyout. NNNN.com's should experience upward pressure from the buyout of NNNNN.com's as well as rising value of numerics in general, a couple NNN.com's just sold for over $30k and two weeks ago 173.com sold for over $300k (numerics are very big in the rapidly growing Asian market).

I second that idea. Once I bought a CVCV.com, (rulo.com) for 750 usd and then sold it for 2200 usd after a few months. You can not go wrong with cvcv.com's. Mine was an average cvcv but you can buy better for that money.
