What is your first ever domain registration?

hi

My first was Spratlys.com (Archive Whois)

I am glad that, I don't own it anymore, things have worked positively for everything, since then..

Also, it was so exciting for somthing to claim it for yourself, new name for everyone..

In 2001, my full name (FirstMiddleLast in dotcom).

I still have it. Too long and unusual to be of any value except to me. I had read in a writer's magazine that all writers should register their names in .com so that squatters wouldn't hijack it and try to sell it to you. It made sense, so I did. I think I paid $35.00 for it (Netsol, natch). At those prices, I could not afford to buy too many domains. I really didn't know much about the biz yet (wish I had!).

Five years later, I regged my firstlast name, which is evidently worth xxxx because I share the same name with a somewhat well-known writer who has published a lot of books.

It currently redirects to my academic website, which I use for my students, so it's not a money site.

Yelo :!: :hi:

I very luckily registered a "Tube" domain in '98/early '99 ... and sold it a couple of years later for mid $X,xxx :$:
I, too, though, also paid $35/whack ($70 for two years, mandatory) at Network Solutions that I later ate and eventually dropped ... I guess lots of experience with both the GOOD and the bad / ugly from pretty early on, IMHO. :blink:

PS. What's next? $1.00 "dot Mobey" registrations? :guilty:

Kind regards,
Jeff B-)

ShockingDiscoveries.com

I thought it'd be a good rotten.com-type site to develop. Never got around to developing it. I eventually sold it somewheres for $5 or something and the person that got just let it expire

My domains since then are .com/.net keywords that get searches

$1.00 dotMobeys? You're too funny.

:laugh:

In the early days of domaining, I, believing that unique terms and hyphens were cool, regged a lot of junk.

:sick:

Years ago, I read an article that people with too much time on their hands were playing a game to see if they could type in real (but obscure) terms into Google and turn up "0" results.

I tried it--nearly impossible, even when Google was relatively new.

I now know that in this biz "unique" is bad (unless it's short and pithy) and obscure one-worders like "Lexiconist" are not necessarily valuable.

With its recent acquistion by dud Afilias (home of the cheapy $1 .info's), I'm very serious! :red: :imho:

Would be even harder today, of course! :hehe:

I think the thing with domains, along with longevity and having made - and hopefully learned from - mistakes ... is sharing and openly discussing; I know I'm a better domainer and businessperson due to the information and knowledge that I've gained here at our #1 Namepros! :hearts: :talk:

My TM'd motto was Lean and Mean in '09, same holds true for 2010.
Best,

$0.89 + $0.18 ICANN FEE (whatever that is).

3 million new regs.

3mm x $1 = moniez! :p

~~~
:red: first domain registered -
www.mumbaimart.com - 11 Jun 1998.
Long story behind this one too. :)
- still active
:hehe:
The problem with the cheapy $1.00 scenario is that one would have to actually perceive at least $1 present or FV for their purchase; and in the case of the long (four-lettered ala .INFO) and completely unprofessional and awkward "dot Mobey" ... I don't think there will be that many that see this, ummmm, value, IMHO. :guilty:
.MOBI will never see 1,250,000 registrations with all the junk actively being dropped (but Afilias will make a similar play to the unsuspecting at a BUCK a piece to boost its numbers)! :red: :imho:
See you soon,
Jeff B-)
On 01/22/1999 I registered Hakrider.com. To this day I get funny looks from lots of people when you give givenname@surname,com as an email address. I don't give that one out often as the spammers drove me nuts and it took several years before it was usable again. Sort of like it used to be having an unlisted phone number.
hi
Jeff, hi !
Good to hear from you (PM) and others.. :alien:
I, too, have been away on sabatticals with loneliness (I have been detained by police here 16 times, and locked up in mental institutions 14 times); now, that the "cat" is out of the bag, I'd like to have the choice to move on ..
Everyone in my life believes I am not posessed with a money making opportunity..
..I am considering what not to do for everyone, but the truth is I already sold internationalflights.com for high $xxxx in 2006 etc.
As an American, I have never had $10,000 in the bank for my life hehhe, I think my futures dispense in cloud income comes at the cost of my government disability account InCoMeS..
I enjoy our shared past here and domaining..
Things have kinda seesawed for me of recent, I must slow the personel time down to do better...
I know that I don't appreciate - the most
To Further,
-Questionmark :rolleyes:
My first domain was NP-Complete.com (with the dash)...
Mathematicians prefer the dash in NP-Complete. While I also own the non-dash version, the only buy requests I have ever received are for the dash version from other mathematicians.
Are you implying that $1 .mobi won't surpass 1,250,000 registrations? I disagree: I'm pretty sure we'll see that many albeit likely not all at the same time. ppl will reg worthless .mobi just like they currently reg worthless .info at $1 a pop. If it turns out to be a bad investment, ppl will then take solace knowing that it was only $1 wasted.
.MOBI will never see 1,250,000 registrations with all the junk actively being dropped (but Afilias will make a similar play to the unsuspecting at a BUCK a piece to boost its numbers)! :red: :imho:
No, I think Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch has that dishonor. GoodBand.com is a kinda catchy domain lol Dunno why
Thanks Arch, Yeah it was catchy. We told people we were Good Band Dot Com (to be ironic, the internet was still new then) and then people would introduce us as "Good Band". That just sounded really egotistical.
