For sites you are developing how do you plan to make money from the site ?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Not sure yet, really I am waiting for a bit to see what the DM tools will be like, as well as letting my site mature a little, and then I will make a move, unless the domain gets sold by then - lol

Very interested to see what others are planning though - great idea for a thread :)

Advertising and maybe membership fees.

Would love to be the DN Journal of .tv :)

Ad revenue for now, some sites will ask for donations for upkeep only, some will be for sale, and a couple will have memberships.

Oh, and selling them. Out of the 30 or so I have, at least 20 are for sale.

I am working on a site for Cranes.tv which will be used as something like "the Web TV Guide to UK Crane Industry" with guides to all industries, jobs section, forum, training...etc
We will also show Videos sent in from Crane maufacturers of new models, technical changes, training videos & videos that we shoot ourself from a small part time video team i have got in place.

I will be focusing on advertising to bring in the majority of revenue with a small % coming from Online Shop. My plan is to aim for a small number of advertisers who can "sponsor" a complete section on the site & as part of that sponsorship we will send out our video team to record a short advertisement for that company to be shown in the prime position on the page they sponsor.

Selling ad space is a new concept to me so its a bit scary to try estimate how easy it will be to sell all available spaces but i hope a few contacts in the industry im looking at building the site on will help.
I have talked to friends who work in selling ad space for Directory sites and they have given me plenty of advice & will keep me right on the best strategy.

I would really like to have some type of ads during or before the videos but i wont rely on that, if i can find a way of making a little extra through such ads then it will be a bonus.

I am sure my Business model will continually change before things are complete but i have great confidence right now after some interesting meeting with possible advertisers & long term contributers.

Its an exciting & nervous time!

Generate income from any and all sources that produce the greatest amount of return for the minimum amount of combined labor and capital invested. The trick is figuring out which revenue streams meet the listed criteria. Often it is difficult to anticipate demand until the market has a chance to taste what you can supply.

Buy domains...

--turn some into sites that sell goods and/or services. (GalleryGuide.TV, TalkingBizCards.com, MouseMassager.com.)

--put some domains into content/ad-split networks like Magnify & Swicki Search. (the jury is still out on how profitable it will be ad-wise)

--buy some domains to resell

--have a local/community domain (leads to other web work as well promotions)

--have a, or some, VC worthy domains w/ concept & biz plan to pitch at every available op.

--turn some into personal interest sites (their fun, add value to the web and 'character' impress clients & customers, and would be clients & customers)

--In emergencies... have stuff to sell on Ebay!

Showbiz,
The more I look at that MissingChildren.tv domain of yours the more I'm convinced you're on to a winner. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't become big. It's the type of thing that people will want to look at. Great opening video clip. Very powerful. Now you need to work with the agencies and get lots of content up. I'd move away from Demand's tools and do your own thing. Get lots of images on the site wrapped around that opening video. Have videos coming off the images where you can. Have a new image posted each day .... "one more child gome missing". Very powerful content, very important content. It's the type of content people are drawn to.

I'd retain the opening video as a centerpiece. Very, very powerful mix of visuals and music.

Well done!
