Alright, so I've been designing for a long time, but the past year or two I've been to busy with school to be working online as much as I would like, but now I've graduated and I'm back, but I'm a little confused with the web 2.0 that i'm seeing everywhere.

Can someone please explain to me what the difference between web design and web 2.0 design is?

Thanks

web 2.0 is a buzzword really.

he whole web 2.0 is mainly focused towards sites that let the user dynamically create the content of the site, ie facebook, myspace etc

the whole design concept means white space, gradients, sparse use of bold colours etc. however, most designers dismiss the wntire buzz word, as it means nothing, and basically reflects a current trend in "modern" web designing.

so pretty much, don't get too hung up on it, you haven't missed much!

I agree with Albino.

I've found that most people who ask for a "web 2.0" site don't even UNDERSTAND what it is.

As Albino already said "web 2.0" is basically a current hype and buzz. Design is partly involved as a typical "web 2.0" site would use rather light colors. The basic foundation of "web 2.0" is usually however user generated content. This is nothing new although, sites which rely on user generated content exist since more than 10 years.

One other typical attribute would be extensive usage of client based scripting (aka Ajax).

"Web 2.0" is basically existing mechanisms in a new layout with a slightly different handling and a huge hype around it.

Found this explanation of what web 2.0 is somewhere on the forums, might be interesting.

Just another post to say web 2.0=user generated content. Nothing new in programing terms other than to rely on the user to supply the content. It is sort of paradigm shift. You don't need to supply the content to make a buck, rather create a unique place for the user to do it for you :)

Simple: The focus towards more visual-auditory media on your site then pages of text.

Instead of designing a eBook, design a video course. Do that, and you'll be doing web 2.0

Web 2.0? What is that.. I will tell you, its nothing a made up word, its nothing.

Its a word that a company made up to make them selfs draw more book sales, and hits on there website.

It is working for them they are selling more books and getting more hits.

Web 2.0 is the way we design our pages, the way we do the back end of out pages.

If your up on the latest ways to design, market and build the back end of your site using ajax, java, php and so on then you can forget about this bull shit word "web 2.0"

I am a web designer making very good money at it, I tell every one of my clients the same things and every one of them hire me to build there site, and most of them rehire me after words to do add on projects

So, restates the question, what is web 2.0, its nothing until would wide web 2.0 comes out. Until then .. Well you know my take.

imho web 2.0 is another buzz word that does not mean a whole lot. It has become so popular that i think my new sites are going to be programed in web 3.01 which is vastly superior! ;)

everyone who says web 2.0 is something is wrong until you can show me something new that wasn't here from before Tim O'Reilly said something about it then I will change.

short answer to your question, ITS NOTHING!
