Web 2.0? What is it?

Hey all,

Forgive my n00b of a question, but I've seen many people talking about web 2.0 styles and templates (I think...).

What exactly is web 2.0?

I've checked out templates that claim they have a "web 2.0 template" - And see nothing different in their coding.

Ultimately Web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing applications for many purposes." per wikipedia.

For example....writely, googles recently acquired online word processor, is considered web 2.0. Now you have a lot of sites like flickr, digg, and del.icio.us being called web 2.0 but IMHO they dont really fit. Hope this helps.

Thank you Billy. I find it kind of exciting to think that the internet could eventually do that. That opens up a whole new avenue so to speak for us domainers and web dev's. A site that kind of keeps tabs on 2.0 pretty good is www.techcrunch.com (no affiliation btw) so take a look at that too.

I've been wondering the same myself, and I never understood when people referred to sites such as digg as web 2.0. Now I know.
