What is the best of the companies that offer to snap up domain names--i.e. Snapnames, Namejet, etc. Do any of these services offer a much better chance of getting a dropped name than any other? Are they all using the same basic script or do some of them have a leg up? Is there an advantage to using these fancier services over just doing a $18 backorder with a regular registrar? Anything to watch out for in these companies?

I appreciate any tips that you can offer. Thanks.

Snap & Pool are really good. You should backorder names at both these avenues, so that you are assured for the name.

That is million dollar question. :)

Their scripts hit every micro second, that's why they end up catching names.

Agreed. It's obviously not 100%, naturally ... but those two combined have a very good chance of obtaining the domain name (depending also, of course, on how valuable / demand there is perceived to be, IMHO). Check the Registrars, as well ... for instance, if it's with GoDaddy ... use GoDaddy (I think it's TDNAM) back-order services, as well! :hint: :gl:

GoDaddy/WildWestDomains/BlueRazor > TDNAM
NetworkSolutions/eNom > NameJet
All Others > SnapNames/Namejet/Pool*

* Each of these dropcatchers have some exclusive arrangements with various registrars. There is an oldish list here.. http://www.whois-search.com/deleting/who.php It might not have been updated for a while, but it'll give you an indication of where to use. Actually you should bid at all 3 to cover your bets. These 3 capture the overwhelming majority of dropping domains. So if one of them captures the domain you'll be in with a chance to win it.
