I was looking to backorder some names and I have not tired any backordering services other than namejet. I have heard that the best one is pool.com but I did a quick search and could not find any good advice about the best one. I would like to know as per the experience of the members here as to which is the best backordering service you use and why you believe it's the best.

DropCatch is the best Drop Catcher. By far. But it comes with the baggage that once a domain has been caught, it goes up for public auction. No other drop catcher can effectively compete with DropCatch.

Dropcatch is snatching up nearly everything (that is worth it) nowadays.

Pheenix was ok several months ago, you can try them for much less competitive names.

As far as my understanding is after the name goes for public auction anyone can bid for it, without having placed a backorder.

Correct. I would add that if you are the only backorderer, the domain doesn't go to public auction, you win the domain outright.

Why is DropCatch owning the competition? Do they have some proprietary technology? Faster servers? Voodoo?

I have been trying to backorder a name in dropcatch, Its not yet in the list, I guess they does not have an option like wish list in namejet? So if I want to make a dropcatch order for a name that is about to come for renewal, would I not be able to place an order with dropcatch until the name comes to their pending list?

Or try to catch it yourself if its not a highly in demand name. I have been using the desktop drop catcher with pretty good luck. It's not likely to win the LLLL.com's, but is good for many others.

What I have in mind is some what in demand names, and I'm almost sure it needs some good service. Anyways thanks for pointing out the desktop catcher which I would look around for.

Andrew @FPForum will help you out. he was awesome at getting me set up and the $100 I spend was well spent to have the tool. I don't use it as much as I should. I think of expired as three tiers; Tier 1 is the high end LLLL and above quality and Tier 3 is the stuff you can buy at expired.net every day. But in between there are many names that would be bought before they are available to general registration and i think that is the sweet spot for this tool.

Do the blanket approach: put a backorder for the domain at all backorder places. Pool doesn't catch much any longer so don't waste your time. DropCatch is the best I agree but competition is fierce is they get the domain and multiple people are bidding on it. Pheenix, NameJet and SnapNames are good. There are a few others I've tried like Domain Monster and Hexonet but have not had much success.

Thanks for the tag and kind words @cocaseco! As others have said, DropCatch is by far the best when it comes to backorders. The fact that Andrew Reberry has about 40-50 private registrars under his belt gives him the ability to send more requests than most other backorder companies out there (I think Pheenix has maybe a dozen or so registrars under their belt)..

Pool is pretty old school and doesn't catch much anymore these days. If there is a domain you really want it's probably better to backorder it with DropCatch, NameJet, and SnapNames. One of the three will more than likely get it. The downside to DropCatch is the public auction thing.. I'd say the level 2 guys would be Pheenix, DynaDot, Name.com, BackorderZone..etc.

Once again, if it's a domain you REALLY want and think there will be competition for, backorder it with NameJet, SnapNames, and DropCatch. Then, get your money ready for the auctions because other people will have backordered it as well. I think it's probably next to never when a premium, semi-premium, or LLLL domain doesn't have any other backorders these days.

Since all of the members here are suggesting for Dropcatch I would go with them. But then again there is a problem, the domain is in grace period and dropcatch does not shows the name that I wish to place the backorder. Are we only able to place backorder for names they have at their database?

I don't think you can backorder it with DropCatch until it officially hits PendingDelete since it's still restoreable by the registrar. If that's the case, what registrar is it with? If it's with a registrar owned by (or partnered with) Enom (the people who own NameJet) or Web.com (the people who now own SnapNames) then you (or someone else) can grab it from the Pre-Release lists before it ever hits the Pending Delete stage and it would never drop.

They have, I forget how many, 4-500 registrars hitting Verisign's servers every millisecond. At least twice as many as any other registrar. Maybe more.

As @FPForum stated, you cannot backorder a domain at DropCatch unless it is in Pending Delete status at the Registry.

I got your point I have added it in namejet and there are some 40-50 bidders in wishlist. Thanks for your suggestions and insight.
