What is going on with GoDaddy Auctions!

So, you don't usually see bids on names if they just hit the GD expired auction (unless they are premium or 4L names) with 9 days left. i was looking at expiring names today and these sh*t names have bids on them already, wtf am i missing???

So i did a general sample search of 500 names on GD exp auctions

There were 140 with initial bids (excluding 4L's) - that's almost 30% of the names with pre bids.

So even if no else bids on these names - that's over $3k in auction/renewal fee's (just on the sample i did - there are most likely 100's or 1,000's more)

i checked back and 99% of them have a valuation over $1k

It's interesting that all the ones you list here are at least 4 years old. Curious to know what the age is of the others that have bids.

i cant see any correlation, between the bids and the names, traffic is low, names for the most park are sub-par,

If you watched last domain sherpa show, you find Shane's associate is totally playing the game by default. To him it's just a numbers game. He buys as many domains as possible, and waits for a sale.

If your probability is good. You know the more domains he has the more chances he has to make money. He manages cost by buying at minimum price $12.

However, GD has so many domains at least 20% of the best of the best are bought for the minimum (nobody finds them). Half of the domainers I know are vultures waiting for the buy signal.

Makes zero sense, if you are going to bid on names you don't do it straight out of the gate, it just tips others off

I did another sample 500 name search with 9+ days - 220 names had the auto-valuation

123 names with 1 bid (non premium and non 4L) - 25%
122 of those names with one bid had the new auto-valuation by GD 99%

2% of the names with one bid i would consider as being ok, the rest i wouldn't have even hand registered.

1. did try u a masswhois lookup on those names ; seem you can program, so it should be easy enough using python and cheap vps from scaleway.
2. Check the starting price. There are two price ranges here
   • $10
   • $12

I have a separate list of all godaddy auctions with bids and I noticed this jump as well. Yesterday in around 3 hours the number of auctions with bids jumped from 2500 to 16000.

My guess is that this is/was an automated bidding script that is used to the old valuation system. Lets see what happens today.

you only can, assuming no one else bids + you have to pay the renewal fee

And i still continues. I did another sample of 500 names to on the fresh expired auctions posted last night

216 had 1 bid... that's 43% of my sample!

Almost all have the new GD valuation (but there are several GD Valuations without bids too)

Does anyone see the value in these names, are we missing something?
