I picked up a domain recently that has been registered since 2005. But unfortunately, the .net and .org is available. Does this make the domain useless?

End users will type the (.com) always, even me having a website on ccTLD still type the com sometimes.

No, it doesn’t make it useless.
Availability of the .net and .org only matters if:
  • The name is highly brandable and someone would logically want to protect alternates
  • The keyword has strong commercial intent
  • There’s existing traffic leakage risk
If the .com is strong, short, and commercially clear, most end users only care about the .com.

However, if .net and .org are available, it can sometimes indicate:
  • Lower demand for that exact string
  • Or that the term isn’t highly competitive
It is a signal not a verdict.

If you own the .COM you have the optimal registration of the name.

If you register the .NET and .ORG you'll probably have to discount them to the same buyer.
