Can't tell without knowing the domain, but if it's not that much to register for you then why not B-)

Why not, if it is not the one with trademark, you can register it. IMO.
But such is very rear to happen.

I myself have hand reg'd domains which previously were sold and have successfully sold them again, it's rear I come across one but I nearly always think that the original purchase was one of impulse by the buyer only to become ditched from lack of interest.

Check to see if the domain was ever a website and that its not blacklisted or a trademark. Maybe you should register the name but don't delay because the good ones don't last long on the shelf.

Many sales are one of a kind and won't repeat.
Maybe there is/was only one 'obvious' end user. So the domain may not be valuable after all.

Are you sure the sale is legit in the first place?

There was a buch of five to six figure sales on flopped extensions (like .mobi) which are now free to register.

No one can't exactly say without knowing the ccTLD/keyword.

I saw some time ago a funny statistic of how many sites and domains sold on Flippa end in drops... Don't remember exact numbers but something like 20-30%. Some people coming to the business without proper knowledge and spending a lot of cash on useless things, only to find out later they are useless, and end dropping them. So maybe that was one of those meaningless $3k buys?

Reg it if you think that you can sell it. Again, it depends on the name. It's hard to say without knowing the details

If you have to ask other peoples advice on this matter, you shouldn't be speculating in domain names.
