Let's share our experiences what kind of domain investments have worked out for you and which ones did not.

I'll start.

Worked nicely:

- Nice pronounceable 4L.coms
- Meaningful acronym 4L.coms
- Brandables with good keyword+suffix in .com
- premium keyword dot org

What I have tried and mostly abandoned:

- 4L .org (western prem, western+chinese prem)
- premium keyword dot biz, dot info

Some that haven't really worked yet, but I do hold:

- premium keyword dot us, LL.al, LLL.us, L-L.co, Country/city/nation dot me or dot co
- Random nice pronounceable but meaningless 5L to 7L .coms, even via BB, BR

Something I haven't tried and don't intend to: new gtlds, even though I do like some creative and nice ones, but don't feel like supporting shady ways of this industry.

For me, ccTLD's mainly UK .co.uk names. Last year in particular, .co.uk sales far exceeded our .com sales. Don't bother with anything else.

Yes, I do like my home market (UK) but it is under some serious price pressure due to the Nominet (our uk ICANN equivalent) Shenanigans with the imminent release of the shorter dot .UK.

on the wider front. As I've mentioned before I've done well with single technical/product type words prefixed with 'Smart' in .com but, I did get in early around 2003 to 2005

Brandable domain names worked for me. As I had direct contact with some local startup guys, they keep on looking for names for their new ventures.

So are you working to their 'Specifications' ??- doesn't seem like a very profitable way of working the domain market to me. Even if they were to give you a 1000% mark-up. only = 100 bucks or so

It had helped to sell few brandable names. But I agree for long term not a good way. I like investing and selling in keyword related domains.
