Is anyone aware what happens to domains with 0 bids after the auction is ended..
A couple of domains I was looking after are showing expiry until next year (@ whois) even thought they didnt receive any bids.

Well. Firstly the domain is for sale at $12, Then if no bids it's for sale at $9, $8, and then $5 on consecutive days. Then if still no bids, the domain will drop (at about 78 days after expiry).

The domain that receive no bids after the alloted time are sold at a set price or transferred to a different seller site.

If those domains that you were looking at truly are worth it you are far better getting them when they reach the closeout stages, such as the $5-10 range, after that it is going to go back to open registration and you will be competing with everyone else and his dog to lay your hands on it.

Some may say that paying $5 extra is a waste of money, and that you should wait but there are some awesome names that drop from time to time that are worth way more than that...seems a shame to let them get snapped up by someone else :p

When it does get to the closeout stages the first bid is the only one, what happens then is usually you have to wait a few days to make sure the prior registrant doesn't claim it, if it gets past this (found in your godaddy "auctions won" menu) it is yours straight away :)

Don't trust the whois. All dot com, net, tv domains get one more year free renewal by the registry the day they expire but this is only temporary and lasts 45 days. If you check the whois on day 46 you will see that it shows again as expired.

Thanks for all your responses.
Was just curious about this process.
Apart from this the domains in context are really not much significant to me else I wouldnt mind paying $9/$5 for that immediate buy now option.
