What does "Status: redemption Period" mean in a WHOIS record?

I am looking up a name I am interested in and the following comes up on the whois record:

Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 03-jan-2007
Creation Date: 25-nov-2003
Expiration Date: 25-nov-2006

What does the status mean? Has the domain name expired on 25/11/2006 or was it renewed in Jan 07?

Redemption Period (usually about 30 days)

The whois info will be deleted, and the domain will remain inactive. The domain can still technically be renewed by the registrant, although it may cost anywhere up to $200 to do at this stage.
