For me personally, and from an investment standpoint - they are not worth me spending my money on. Think of it as a poker game, I won't play every hand in hopes that the flop will benefit me somehow. This is a game of incredible discipline and patience. Why invest your money in something that you can only point out "a couple" of decent comparable sales for? That surely can't mean that you too will sell a similar domain name in an ever changing market for the same price?

Those domains that sold for $xx,xxx sold in 2006/2009... and one of them was Job.us. For these types of domains, you should study the latest trends, not the past ones. And in 2015, there have only been (from a quick NameBio.com search) only 3 reported LLL .us sales. That is nowhere near enough to make it worth the investment and the tons of effort it would take to find an enduser/wait for one who would want random LLL's in a horrible .us extension.

An $x,xxx-$xx,xxx sale of a .us in 2015 is very, very rare and likely won't happen often enough to make it worth investing in. Why even bother with them?

The market for LLL.us is very weak. I've sold a few for mid-$$$ nonetheless, and one for low-$$$$ (eat.us).
For most, it's probably regfee unless you are lucky. But luck is not a business strategy.

Well , Ron Jackson would be the best one to answer this question , he got like 3/4 of all LLL.us domains . If you still curious, just hit him up on twitter. You would be surprised ..

This is the recent sales guide from 3Character.com
Member Zesty keeps it fairly updated, and remember, it is only a guide.

Were those sales this year, Kate?
If so, then nice hits. Quality letters I'm guessing.

According to 3character.com

3-Letter .us - $10 Current Observed Minimum Wholesale Price (regardless of letter combo) as of May 5, 2015.

Western World Criteria: The quality of the letter composition can play a significant role in determining 3-letter valuations. General concensus states that the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T are considered premium letters. Other lesser high quality letters include: J, K, U, V, W. Lower quality letters include: Q, X, Y, Z. Domains selling for less than the above figures would represent a strong buy in today's market. Premium letter only domains tend to fetch a 500% to 600% premium (or more) over the Minimum Wholesale Price. Mixed letter quality domains have valuations somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.

Meh...buy them and hold them they are cheap. I own about 20 but I think in total i paid maybe $150. That's one real good dinner or a couple hands of BJ. I haven't done any marketing of them, but do keep an eye open for clever uses and make note for when I do. Many of them are word hacks in other languages so that might be an option. Plus, ANYTHING with US on it is desirable in many other parts of the world. There is a lot of tunnel vision on this forum so if you have a creative or new idea, don't let anyone stop you. A lot of people just arent creative and able to have a vision of how a domain might be used, but if you do and you have confidence in your own decisions and predictions, go for it.

Update: I missed the above post quoting $10 per. So even if I sold now and got $200, that's a 25% return. If your bank offered you a deal and would give you 25% return on anything you put into savings account today, what would you do? Exactly.

Anyway I can't advise people to heavily invest in .us, because the TLD never quite took off unfortunately.

Back in 2005, you may remember that domainers were buying LLL.us here, at least there was a bit of liquidity for this type of names. Today nothing...

I would save my money and do more research instead of following trends that were profitable with .com-s and now trying to pull them off with other extensions. I just don't see enough potential for the .us especially with the 100-s of new TLD-s i think buying random LLL.us is risky at best.

New: Chinese and Global Markets: With this new and emerging market, letter quality is very different than in much of the western world. Preferred letters are B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T. W, X, Y, Z. Vowels are considered mildly valuable. The letter V is considered lower quality.

Lovely!(well saying this because i have the same bullish sentiment about .US as you do).

I would call .us - "complicated". Because yes, its not a typically active ccTLD, but you cant ignore US is the mostly powerful country in the world and ccTLD values are affectd by the nations' overall standing and US as a country is very wealthy. A, guessing there are many americans who can spend $500 on a .us domain name they need but how many other countries' citizens can do that? Rich americans can spend as much as any wealthy person in the world IF they want that .us domain name, so many things are at play. And many sales go unreported! so that always throws a spanner into many conventional convictions.
Personally, like @cocaseco, i think some LLL.us have been sold really cheaply on NP and i snapped up a few. I've not invested heavily in .us, but am holding X number of LLL.us, all triple premiums. LLLs also follow basic demand and supply so even if people are not actively buying LLL.us, over time, they become naturally more valuable because there are just fewer of them(isnt that whats pushing LLL.com values up so much? even for rubbish letters?). And yes, we should keep track of the domain king's LLL.us holdings. he dropped most of his LLL.mobis so we know how he felt about that.

Sometimes we just have to hold to actualize the value of our names. Even I have seen that a number of times with my domains i've renewed over and over.
