Why LLLL?

Hello here

What is the value in 4-letter domains? I can see for a company which acronym has 4 letters, but many such acronyms are not used by a company. It is true that there are a limited number of them. But if a LLLL domain does not mean anything what attraction does it have for buyers?

Are short domain name desirable because they are short to type, specially on mobile phones and such? What is the market for that.

Finally, is the .COM extension really better for LLLL domains. I would think that .US or other local extension is shorter to type.

Very nice thinking - it's always good to ask these questions

The value isn't necessarily due to the meaning of a LLLL.com domain - at the moment it's basically a market driven thing. Domainers see that they will all be registered soon, hence basic supply and demand means a profit can be easily made (reg for, say, $7.17, then sell for even $20 gives a nice profit if done in bulk). I think this is their main attraction.

Don't forget that domains like "ZYX.com" may not have a decent acronym, although it's still worth $4,000

.COM has always been seen as the best extension - hence it'll nearly always hold more value than a LLLL.us (or whatever)

Should I understand from this that LLLL.com should be resold in bulk at low price to a domain trader for small but assured profits? Is that why there are some "prohibited" letters like k, q, v, x, y, z which makes them of no value for these traders?

At the moment, the best way to new collectors of LLLL.com domains is to:

1) Register a lot in bulk
2) Sell them at a low price ($10 - $20)
3) Make a tidy profit :P

However in less than 2 months, all LLLL.com domains should be registered - then the best way to make a profit (IMHO) is either cash in quickly when their value shoots up quickly (the price may go down for a few months after the initial 'rush' - who knows), or keep them for a while and hope their value heads in the direction of an LLL.com :P

Whilst letters like "k, q, v, x, y, z" aren't considered too great (I personally like K though - W and J are seen as worse than K), a domain consisting of only a couple of those could still be sold for a tidy profit. And in a few months, the value of, for example, XWQY.com would probably be much higher than reg fee.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, though. The above advice is for domains which aren't immediately amazing. If you own a reasonable quality CVCV.com, or another highly pronounceable one, a common acronym (etc), then maybe hunt out an end user or large buyer to sell the domain to.
