What do you guys think of .name for a personal name. Do you think that common first names are good investments in the .name ext? They seem to make the most sense for it, but do you think they will gain in value though?

Is it a common name? Was the domain in IDN?

It isn`t so common male name even in my country, but has more then 2 millions Google results and is taken in 10 others TLDs. BuyDomains own my personal name in .com :(

That seems like a lot of Google results for a not very common name. Was it is IDN, like your name is shown on here? I guess that your answer is that you don't really like even personal first names in the .name extension? Or is it that you just didn't think your name was commong enough?

Thanks for the quick reply. Rep added.

There are some famous persons with my name, so I think that is the main reason for so lot of Google results. In my country we use two letters (latinic and cyrillic). It isn`t IDN, my name has only premium letters  . Name shown here is my nick (Mick).

This is only my opinion, I like personal names in .com and .info only, and last names in .org and .biz. Thanks for rep :great:

Personal names in .info. I hadn't even thought about that. The main reason I was wondering about .name, is because I remember reading a while ago that all of the most common personal names were registered almost immediately. I almost never see them expiring, so it made me wonder if everyone who has them is holding on to them, or even if all of the most common names were regged out to begin with.

Mick.name is pretty good, I think I would have kept it. :imho:

The problem is that they originally started selling them as third level domains, e.g. john.smith.name and susi.smith.name. Then they suddenly allowed second level domains if no 3rd level domains had been taken, so this all turned into quite a mess. Regardless, I have mine (second level) and use it for various family members.

Who started selling them as 3rd level domains? The registrars? I still don't understand why we hardly ever see them expire or sell.

You have taught me something new, which I think also deserves a rep :)

it's too long, i'll stick with .com though article writers and book authors will go for this if .com is not available.

I am talking just about first names. Like Seth.name for me, or William.name for you. I think that full names are too long for the alternate tld. Or do you mean that the ext ".name" is too long because of the 4 characters?

Rep Given. I might as well say it now, but I will be giving reps to all constructive posters to this particular thread.

I think common 1st names in the .name like the ones you mentioned above are worth getting if you have a common name like the above ones.

.name is not a good investment at all.
It's only good for one purpose and even then I think .info is a better choice as Ajkula suggested above :imho:
