I think it's time to stop the talk and finally walk the walk! Get busy with development and talk about your favorite CMS for great video sites. What CMS do you use? What are the pro's and con's?

We use Drupal for ALL our sites that we're currently developing. Drupal is probably one of the most versatile, open source CMS's out there but the learning curve is a little steeper compared to the likes of WP and Joomla.

Share your thoughts and ideas, your experiences and views ! :tu:

I built my main site on Joomla. It's incredible easy to use.

I WANT to use Drupal but it seems more of a startup cost - and I am not there yet. I have all the books ;)

I have a hard time getting past WP as blogging software. I'm actually currently playing with some native JS libraries. I need to learn how to incorporate them into the CMS. I have one I want to use...

Still a newbie at development so use XSitePro2 plus their header addin XHeader. Animoto.com is a nice service to facilitate video transition effects of photos one has taken. For examples, see examples at PembrokePines.tv (2nd video), Weston.tv, Doral.tv, HollywoodBeach.info

Open Source platform

why is that ?

With the open source nature of Wordpress, there are a host of free plugins that you can use to enhance your site and SEO. (my example site: Fussen*tv) In addition, website installation is a cinch!

yes the plugins are good , the main reason for me is that my hosting company have a feature called fantastico and i start a blog from the list of options including wordpress, five minutes later there is a new wordpress blog !

I like WP and used it for my hilarious.tv. I find it to be quite user friendly.

I develop wordpress sites for clients from high end CMS templates.

I sold Editing.tv to my good friend who used to assist me in my photography. I cut him a tremendous deal and am also making him a WP site to go along with it. Currently it is just housing shell info, butis up and is all wordpress. I was able to get all of the site's functions together within 5-7 hours, not bad considering it is a premium template with alot of features.

All in all wordpress is the best choice now that it has reached version 3.0. Prior to that there was no way to organize the menu without hard coding it. Sometimes it was a pain bacause not every template plays nice. Now its too easy, I am worried about people doing it themselves versus paying me haha!

www.editing.tv

My friend is an editor so this domain nd wordpress was the natural choice :) Its easy for him to update.

Wordpress Rocks

Assertion
PROVE IT

The advantages of Wordpress CMS is that it is very search engine friendly. For an example, I built two Wordpress websites (OilSpillTV*com) and (OilSpillAttorney*tv) both of which rank No.1 for their perspective terms.

Oil Spill TV - Ranked No.1 on Google, Yahoo, AOL & Bing [OilSpillTV*com]
Oil Spill Attorney - Ranked No.1 on Yahoo [ OilSpillAttorney*tv]

These results were achieved in less than 30 days!

Of course like any CMS, you must have a basic knowledge of SEO and understand how to rank your keywords.

Ok a question for you guys who have said what CMS you have used, were do you host your videos and is there a feasible way of hosting and streaming them on your own hosting?

Wordpress seems to be the big thing over here :) I haven't put WP3 to the test myself but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Based on my own experience I would say Joomla and WP are about the same level, simple but effective. Drupal is still my favorite because of the endless possibilities and structure. On a side note, Drupal 7 is going to take web development to a whole new level.

Hopefully I'll find some time to play around with WP3, I'm curious how much has changed since 2.x.

Great feedback so far, keep it coming.

Honestly, youtube and vimeo are the only options if you are a developer. Its quite easy to setup your own hosting to serve HD video but showing it in a flash player is a NO go! Most of my clients have an iphone, this means NO flash. APPLE YOU SUCK! Thus most of my clients have both a flash site and a wordpress site.

Vimeo has the best HD playback at the moment, but things are constantly changing.
