Honestly, I look for developing trends, and use commonly available tools. I also happen to spend a fair amount of time on the phone...

Buy High Sell Low.

I feel like I have mastered this technique and will soon be publishing a tutorial priced at only $999.00 so that everyone can take advantage of this opportunity. :)

Read and study the domain journal price list, or any recent domain sale list: POOL, NAMEJET, TDNAM, SNAPNAMES.

Do research on the names and see why so many people are bidding so high: high click value, traffic, or shortness. You will soon be able to recognize patterns and trends.

and get a partner, it splits the cost of names, and 2 heads are better than one, more importantly 4 eyes and 4 ears > 2 & 2.

Learn how to determine the value of a domain name by religiously reading NameBio.com and the forums. When you can look at a domain and in a split second have a great idea of what it will sell for in the reseller market, you're ready to go on to NamePros, BQB.com, SnapNames, Pool, NameJet, Sedo, AfterNic, etc. and spot some bargains. Then come back here and sell them for profit.

1.) Research, Research, Research
2.) Stick to the old trusty extensions .COM / .NET / .ORG - Any new extension will just add value to those.

When dealing with customers I try to under promise and over deliver.

I Promise Nothing, and Deliver Nothing - thus never disappointing my customers.

That reminds me of Homer Simpson's logic "Well son, you tried and you failed. Lesson learned, never try."
