discuss What Are You? A Domainer or a Domain Originator?

A Speculator? A Creator? A Developer? A Investor? A Artist? A Domainer? or none of the aforementioned? I'm about to register a couple of domain names that clarifies exactly who I am, and I'm proud of it. Having hand registered 1,500 domains in the last 12 months I've finally determined I'm a Domain Originator and not a a domainer (which still isn't a word btw). One would have thought that leaders in this industry would have clarified this by now?

Originator defined: a person who creates or initiates something.

Domainer defined: No Definition....sad

I've been creating names for businesses all my life, and it wasn't until recently that I started creating domain names. There's really little difference imho, and I feel I'm getting better at it every day.

So I'm a Domain Originator similar to a Mortgage Originator. I create internet domain names for .coms etc. I also recently originated the name DomainOrigination(.)com to coincide with DomainOriginator(.)com. Google shows that both Wiki and Investopedia have a page description for "Mortgage Originator" but none for Domainer or Domain Originator

For those of you who create domains like me (keeping in mind every domain was created by someone), now you can proudly say you're a Domain Originator adding credibility to your profession

If you create domains like me, share your profession with the world. I know I will.

Crappy domains? I think not, but what do I know....I'm just a newbie who hasn't a clue

I love candy corn. I dont love that weird Autumn Corn or whatever they call it with the chocolate flavor.
Regardless, "connoisseurs" is not going to help this domain sell.

I don't pay a lot for two word domains because I buy them wholesale but if @Bulloney wants his first real sale I will offer him $250 USD via paypal for that domain.

You are correct in what you say so let me correct my statement.

PROPERLY DEVELOPED DomainGourmet.com is a fantastic concept for a domaining site.

There is only one problem I can see with that domain name and that is that I did not think of it first.
Man I could think of a hundred different ways to develop that into a domaining blog or domaining website.

Imagine a bowl full of domain names with some spilling over. Imagine a gourmet meal vs a so so meal. What makes a good domain and what makes a bad one. Everyone calls themselves a chef but few truly are.

The concept is one that I personally love... set it up like a menu etc etc.
Absolutely endless possibilities.

I have to stop here because people will think I'm endorsing someone, which I am truly not. But I am big enough to admit when someone has a great concept.

I don't pay a lot for two word domains because I buy them wholesale but if @Bulloney wants his first real sale I will offer him $250 USD via paypal for that domain.

Mind you.... he is not the originator though
It has just never been properly developed and the previous owners probably did not have the vision to develop it.

Or you could save $240 and register DomainNameGourmet...

Oh, trust me, he knows how to contact anyone he wants to. Besides, that is why it's good to have a totally unique domain name for business., type it into google and there you are.

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, but only because no one's going to develop a domain blog today that will rake in the cash... So if one likes the concept, they can alter the name a bit and away you go. The content makes the brand for this kind of site... not the shortness of the name.

GourmetDomain.com or GourmetDomains.com - Much better names and make more sense

It actually works both ways...

DomainGourmet - a person who is a gourmet, specifically of domains
GourmetDomains - Domains that are of gourmet quality

I prefer the first, but I agree... wouldn't spend for either.

The word "gourmet" as you refer to it is mainly used in culinary/food industry (gourmet chef etc) but I guess you can do whatever you want in domaining if you really want.

For the record, this is vacation/temp ban #5. It usually lasts about a month. He usually comes back, takes it slow at the beginning, then back to the usual stuff that gets him breaks. He can still read threads like this one. I'm not sure why he is spending his time emailing folks and still buying new domains. I think he really should take this time and do what I touched on earlier. Again, after a year, he still hasn't uploaded his domains to marketplaces like Sedo, Afternic, GoDaddy etc. He still has sales killing landing pages where people have to pay somebody $40 just to contact him. He should be figuring out what kind of landing page he wants. He's just not setup to sell anything if someone somehow manages to land on one of his domains. That should be priority #1 right now.

No sense discussing whether we are domain investors, domain originators, domainers, domain experts, domain help agents, domain servants, domain artists, domain consultants.....we are all just scalpers, it would appear.

I, too, can also conceptualize WAY faster than 8 billion people could ever implement -

BUT I wud not call myself Conceptualizer or Domain Name Conceptualizer, etc.

Domain Investor is a moniker I like...

But domains must first be legitimatized as an asset class

so U can buy them in your IRA or 401K or ETF or Mutual Fund, etc.

One step in that direction seems to be something like Forever Registration -

Does Epik have a monopoly on that ?

I owe you a big thank you MapleDots...what i've discovered is that very few domainers have the vision to develop their own domains While developing DomainGourmet™ i'm also in the process of re-branding myself as That Name Guy™. I've learned there's a lot more to this business than just "domains". This forum is called NamePros not DomainPros, thus to go with DomainGourmet™ I looked into buying NameGourmet, but sadly it was taken. However, I was able to hand register a name that's just as goodYou wouldn't believe the plethora of all sorts of "names" for all sorts of things; boats, pets, nicknames, nameplates/tags, streets, etc.

Will you or anyone following this thread be in Vegas next month at NamesCon not DomainsCon? I'll probably be the guy having the most fun Ho! Ho! Ho! and God Bless!
