Bit of a strange question here,
If I purchase a domain name from someone,
and they push it to my account,
what happens to the email if I use the same host?

example:
Joe was the owner of xxxx.com hosted with AnyHoster.com
His email contact was admin@ xxxx .com

If I purchased the domain name and ironically, it's
the same host we both use, and I set up an email for myself, with the
same email I always use - admin@ xxxx .com

Will I get his email instead? errr maybe not instead of, but
in addition too.

Anybody encountered this before?

Yes. It is the same domain name with the same email address. You will get any emails that were for him. If it was used for only business, keep it the same. If he used it for personal, you'll have to notify anyone sending him email that it's not his site anymore. If it's being filled with a ton of emails, you'll have to scrap it, and choose another one.

Edit: I've reread your post and am a bit confused. Why not just use admin @ xxxx.com (your site name)?

I just realised where I put the "host" info instead
of the "domain" info, I've adjusted the inital post.

Thanks for catching it and thanks for the reply.
I thought that is how it would go, but was hoping I was wrong!

My pleasure. Maybe you can use 'Contact' instead of Admin. I also use 'Info' or 'Webmaster'.

Actually, it doesn't even matter if you use the same host or not.

If they had [email protected] at one host and you set up [email protected] on any other host, you will get mail originally intended for them from the time your DNS MX record goes live. You won't get anything that bounced up to that point, but will get new messages.

If the mail was an imap mail account where mail is saved at the server level, I don't think you would get their existing mail. Even if the domain is on the same host on the same server, your account will be under a different path and account as far as archives. You would get new mail as above though.
