Just got this email from Godaddy.

"We've received a request to refund the following order:"

and I was refunded the amount for an auction I won a few days ago

So far I have never lost a name I have won at auction to someone renewing it.

Is that what this means - they have renewed the name and I lost it?

They do not give an explanation for the refund.

Also, does anyone know how long it takes to get the refund, and what form it is in (credit card credit or GD credit)?

I m still looking for better platform for buy and sale my domains.
Regarding Godaddy i guess it is not big ticket holder have seen many big holders still facing same issues.
Have lost many auction won names at godaddy but the funny thing is has lost my domain name sale's fund too, lol someone do not want to buy after 5 days later while the payment was pending to me, and they email me back saying we blocked the buyer account sorry for that what...
Again have lost many good name on sedo platform too and that was the reason to started using godaddy but still looking for new one lets hope new marketplace from uniregistry solved this issues.
I still love godaddy for their fast response on service call and of course low renewal fees due to club member but wish someone put the energy and investment to serve only domain investor community and not big corporations and I think i has to start paying higher renewal fees so the registrar get profit which give me better service.
Amen brother... Amen!

There is tow kind of auctions at GoDaddy:
- Expiring Auctions
- Public Auctions
In expiring auction the transaction should complete with in one week. otherwise you will receive an email from Godaddy inform you that the domain renewed and you will get the refund.
In public auction sometimes the domain doesn't transfer automatically to your account, so you should then contact the seller directly asking him to push you the domain or to provide you the transfer info. if the domain not registered at Godaddy, and you have I think 14 days to report that you still haven't received the domain fro the seller, and in this case it will take sometimes to get your refund.

You should have got an email that said the owner has renewed the domain.
If you got an email that didn't say the owner renewed the domain, then you better call them. I have lost many auctions due to owner renewal, but I always got an email saying specifically that the owner has renewed the domain, not "We've received a request to refund the following order:"!

That is weird that the email says "request"! At who's "request"? You should call them.

I've had several GD expired domain auction refunds recently. All I have ever received from GD is the "We've received a request to refund" email from them, no explanation. I've always assumed it's because the original owner renewed. I understand that's a downside of GD expired auctions, but always thought that was a weird email for them to send me, since there was no "request" on my part or presumably the original owner, who simply renewed the name.

Godaddy reps are trained to say ,this is very unusual ,which is total BS. most of the domains I buy from GD auctions are usually ,back outs ,as far as expiring domains the domain owner has about if not exactly 43 days to pay full recovery costs ,which is godaddy rule
