after some discussion amongst, a mobi help group is forming to help those needing a help on if they should register a new name. indeed the grey murky waters are upon us where the crystal clear premium names are gone, leaving us to concept names, those with mediocre overture and questionable search engine results. ( :) ha, edited out google so there can be something without their name ... um darn... just said it). ahem, so this thread is for you. and especially for me and the repetitive offenders in the reg of the day, etc., that just cannot seem to follow our own advises and just develop what we have or concentrate on the aftermarket or both.

all rules to be decided and weighed in on.
all opinions to be given by pm
i'm thinking there should be panelists, some like me and garrett with the trigger finger and others that are conservative/hyperconservative, it may be fun to set forth a scorecard as well. not an appraisal per se, but as to whether it should be regd and how risky.

those that use the system should ultimately post the name and if they regd and passed on it. the panelists' scores and decisions will be posted too.

any improprieties will be strictly reported.

as an example of clever or poor or mediocre regs. i could easly take most genres and convert it for the mobi of this mobi thread (will do if successful)

eg/
consigliere.mobi
confidant.mobi (the .com is a diabetes phone monitor/interesting)
cynic.mobi

sounds good reece, that's the spirit. any ideas as to a scorecard, it would be nice if panelists could reduce thoughts and nontangibles to a number.

things should be tweaked as we go along too. thinkin' there will be two schools of people looking for advice. the one's that reg'd already and can return in the window and those that look for advice before reg'ing. either way its time of the essence.

Agreed, try and keep it simple so everyone would be able to understand why their name is worth keeping or registering.

I was thinking of a say 1/10 for definitely do not register or return the name, to say 5/10 for being that the name has potential if developed to say 10/10 for if you could take that name and flip it on the spot for XXX+ undeveloped.

that all sounds good. maybe the number and then a little sentence as to why.

either way. the .mobi extension itself shoud not be discussed. assume its viable. whether the name needs to be related to the extension should be factored or not factored by the panelist. same as to whether its length does not justify its keywords, etc. it'll be good to get a couple of tough panelists too.

hey lurking mobiphobes/mobihaters, anything to add? say it now.. :hehe:

I'm not sure about this. Any name can be a good one if it's developed. Just because some people might give negative approval might not mean that the name shouldn't be regged. Hey, the founder of FedEx did a paper in college outlining his business plan for FedEx and his professor told him that the concept wouldn't work. I hope the professor bought some stock in FedEx!

You're right on both statements. However, let's take me as an example. Would it be easier to sell antioxidant supplements from antioxidants.mobi, antioxidantsupplements.mobi, or canadianantioxidantsupplements.mobi. Obviously any of the 3 could turn into a successful business -- especially if you had a kickass product, however antioxidants.mobi and antioxidantsupplements.mobi are far better choices here, with antioxidants.mobi getting more free type-in traffic leading to decreased advertising costs. If I was an antioxidant company, I might consider purchasing antioxidantsupplements.com in example -- it describes what it's selling perfectly, however I'd never consider purchasing canadianantioxidantsupplements.mobi...

hmm. yes, but when one reg's with a limited amount of funding, a goal is to get the most value out of the money put in. there are all types, deep pockets that can speculate on regging uknown short words with vowels in the hope to be branded, others find its related risks ouweigh rewards. it all depends on who steps up to the plate. But also here, core philosphies about how to reg can be shared. is a no lose situation, a person should have the moxy to reg or keep the reg in the face of negative criticism. and if all the panelists agree that the reg is bad it could(?) say something, no more nor less. either way, go for it, gl, no worries :!:

Agreed. CVCV.mobi to me are somewhat akin to LLLL.com at this point. The future is uncertain but may be paved with silver.
