Hey Namepros!

I have one question about tdnam and rest on content building

1. What happens to domains that are in $5 closeout sales if no one buys them? Do then drop and are free to register?

Website Content

2. Where do you guys get your content for your website? Do you pay or get it for free?

3. Also can you put news articles from other sites on your website, like articles from cnn or rss feeds for example. Is there an etiquette or rules to follow?

Thanks guys this info will help me create my first website.

1. I think the $5 domains do get dropped if no one buys them, but I am not sure. Maybe Bob keeps trying to sell them...

2. Most of our content we get for free. We use to copy news stories, but that can be a copyright violation. RSS is ok, but doesn't seem to work well I think because so many use that. Some content we write ourselves.

3. Try to not steal stuff unless they give you permission like from article sites. Stealing can bring complaints and bad karma and since it's a duplicate it generally doesn't work well anyway. If you use free articles, make a completely new title for the title tag, and also add a nice description tag and it should work pretty good.

1. Yes the $5 ones are dropped and available to register if no one buys them.

2. Create the contents myself and sometimes buys it.

3. Depends on their terms of service. Some sites allow you to use their RSS feeds on your site (BBC, CBC etc) , some explicitly do not allow you to use them. Read their terms and conditons properly.

You can use free articles from articlebase and other places that provide free content. Just do a google search for "free website content." However, most of this content is used on thousands of sites and if you're hoping for your site to get indexed by Google and bring traffic through searches, you're going to have to provide fresh, unique content. Either write it yourself, pay someone to write articles (you can find people who will do this for $5-10 per article), or get some kind of article spinning program that will allow you to essentially create new articles from old ones.

In all honesty, the best approach is to just start a website about something you love and are knowledgeable about. Then you can create your own fresh content and hopefully be able to monetize the site.
