Transferring web content

Hey my name is Austin Leung from New Zealand and I'm new to this forum and this domain trading. I was just wondering how does one transfer web content with a domain name if someone wants to buy your web content?

I mean like if we monetize our domain name then when someone buys our domain name then does that mean that web content just not exist? or we transferr the content to the person who bought the domain? Do we develop the website to just earn money or do we also develop it so it would go up the rankings so it's worth more? Then if thats the case isn't it worth more because of the web content?

Any answer would be helpful

thx

Austin

i have not yet sold a website and name together but i would think you would have to be clear if you are selling the name and the site as well, you still own the content if they are buying the name only. a developed site making revenue would be worth more then just the name alone.

the content will still exist on your server but it will no longer be connected to the domain name when you sell the name only. Depending on how you developed the name it should be easy enough to back up the site and connect this to another name of your own, hopefully you backup your content and databases and you should practice transferring the content before deleting anything for good or selling.

im not sure in the case of selling a website who handles the transfer of content.
hopefully someone with more experience can answer too

Give FTP access to the old server to the buyer?

If you're selling your website then you've to give your content to that person whom you're selling to. If you're selling your domain name then you can keep your content and should give only domain name. Now decide yourself what you want to sell? site or domain name?

Most time, seller zip site content along with database, if any, and send it to buyer.

If buyer don't know how to install the site...
Ask buyer to contact webmaster and let buyer give site files to webmaster.
Or, you can install the site.

All these things can be done easily if your web host use cpanel.

Firefox has a great plugin called FireFTP. You can use it to download your website to your hard drive and the zip it up and email it.

As mentioned above, the smoothest method is to TAR / ZIP archive your files from your web host (using the CPANEL or similar graphical interface, or a shell interface if your host offers it).

If your site is a dynamic one that uses a MySQL database then you will need to dump your specific database to a backup file, and then send that to your customer.

BEFORE doing any of this, make sure that you have removed or changed any sensitive information in your files (for example, Wordpress, Joomla, vBulletin, IPB, or PHPbb files that contain database user and password information!) ....

The easiest way is to provide the FTP control panel details to your buyer.
