Hi all,

Hope I am posting it in the right section here.

Couple of days ago I thought of a great domain name and I was near to purchasing it using Godaddy's $2 coupon code but I never finished the checkout process as this question came right inside my head:

Are guns, ammunition, weapons related domains good to invest in terns of:

1. finding potential buyers---easily
2. buying power of the industry
3. how big the industry is?
4. do these business prefer 'domains' as an asset or don't care at all?

Would appreciate if someone here who has experience in selling such domains could share their thoughts.

Cheers,

@Richard bash - What did you mean by
those are simple easy money makers Ive already mastered but I have to find someone legit to do it for me.
. I thought you were an internet arms dealer by trade? Also are there any restrictions about selling guns across state lines? (I'm not an american). You could have designed a pretty good website for $4k, instead of spending $8k on domains. It is usually a good sign that if a domain is not registered, then it isn't worth much. So don't expect to sell any of your domains for big money. If your non-gunsites are anything like you gunsites, I think you will never find a broker to take them on, because there is not enough money in them for it to be worthwhile.

I'll jump in and provide a little info....

Along with Federal laws that cover certain aspects of firearms and transactions involving them, each state has their own laws that add additional layers of restrictions & governance. Some states (ex's - CT, NY, MD, DC, IL & CA) being MUCH more restrictive than others.

AND THEN you have to add in the additional local city/county laws that can put even further restrictions on things. (Yeah, I'm looking at you Washington, DC, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc.... >:( )

So how does an internet firearms dealer overcome these obvious problems?

Did anyone mention the smartguns thread on here?
https://www.namepros.com/threads/thanks.834256/

Because there are a lot of gun-related products and services and innovations such as printing, which may or may not relate to domain names - I have no idea.

Knowledge/awareness of what the laws are in various states, adaptation (some firearms can be modified to meet specific restrictions), and a belief in the US 2nd amendment...

But then again, some firearms dealers make it a blanket policy to not sell or ship anything to those cities/counties/states where the laws are or can be restrictive - even when they KNOW a product is perfectly legal in ALL jurisdictions.

Maryland sucks! F#!$ O'Malley and his gun laws! Did he make Baltimore safe? Nope! He took away 2nd amendment rights and now you can't protect yourself.

How did he run for president without getting all his illegitimate kids reported?

Regarding laws, hemp is in the same situation. Different laws and varying regulations in the US. Lots of sites do provide detailed info already.

Take a look at some of the laws that just passed in California and will be going in to effect in the next 6-18 months!
  1. Mandatory registration of most types of "standard" Sporting Rifles (aka. evil black rifles - aka. AR's, AK's, etc)
  2. background checks required for purchasing ammo AND all ammo purchased out of state must be passed through a CA firearms dealer before you can possess/own it in CA
  3. no loaning of firearms except to immediate family members (with an exemption for shooting ranges)
Plus there are a few others...

I won't be surprised if "they" (CA state government) start confiscating Sporting Rifles in the next 6-8 years -- maybe even sooner than that.

I am into guns. Before I got into domaining, I ran a firearms social media site that was growing extremely quickly, but I didnt have the time to maintain it with my job and family obligations, and didnt have the sense to sell it at the time. Domain expired, someone else grabbed it.

But I have bought several "STATEgunstore" domains and have managed to sell pretty much all of them for mid to high xxx.

Its money in the niche. I found it relatively easy to sell these names.

Seems like a perfect dn for a forum site or seller of, well you know, Semi Automatic Pistols!
Yeah hold more average monthly searches then most of them in this category. One of the top semi automatic keyword phrases.

I have some ammo related domains like bulkammo.net and ammunition.deals. I've been looking for potential buyers and there are ALOT of online retailers in the ammo space alone. People spend good money on guns & ammo, so I don't see why good domains in this space shouldn't sell for decent money.

I have a couple as well and wish I could find more ammo related affiliate programs. The one big issue I have with the ones I've found is that their ammo tends to be overpriced. I also wish they paid for recurring sales from the customers you send them (at least for a couple of months...)

...People spend good money on these guns & ammo, so I don't see why good domains in this space shouldn't sell for decent money.

My personal opinion is that most LGS (local gun stores) owners don't really understand, appreciate or are openminded enough to be able to understand the added value of targeted (pun intended) domain(s). And the big boys -- Cabelas, Bass, Dicks, etc... -- feel they won't get a significant increase in sales or traffic from these domains. They are focused solely on driving traffic through their brand name.

I see the industry in the beginning of a major shift as to who sells and makes money from firearms.
I'm just not sure if I like the result if it continues.
You can't know who it is profiting. Not like a local shop. But I did invest in the future not the past...

iGunAuction(s) - 7yrs old hand regs
GunAuction.mobi

As you can see, I think it's all going online, profits wise (with plenty of exception)

I've had a few of these kinds of names over the years.

Never had good luck with them.
