Weapons, Ammunition, Guns Domain Names?

Hi all,

Hope I am posting it in the right section here.

Couple of days ago I thought of a great domain name and I was near to purchasing it using Godaddy's $2 coupon code but I never finished the checkout process as this question came right inside my head:

Are guns, ammunition, weapons related domains good to invest in terns of:

1. finding potential buyers---easily
2. buying power of the industry
3. how big the industry is?
4. do these business prefer 'domains' as an asset or don't care at all?

Would appreciate if someone here who has experience in selling such domains could share their thoughts.

Once again I'll suggest that selling it will be very tough unless you have a category killer domain such as SmartGuns.com

It would be fantastic to plot a way to earn revenue with them but I'm clueless. For now it's just a waiting game until an offer comes along that I can't refuse!

Great domain Keith! I'd definitely sit on it for a few years as I believe gun manufacturers will get there some day.

I can tell you all that I just recently got into the domain industry and apparently not to many other people on the inside were into firearms, ive hand regged over 100 descet firearm domains in the last month, Im also an internet firearms dealer by trade, the country is catching on quickly that online is where the money is for all the small frys, they are getting ran over by online gun stores because people dont have to pay taxes, In my marketplace I see new sellers everyday resorting to specializing in pre owned collectibles, ive been making 6 figures a year from a dump off the road dealing in high end firearms only, no retail. my initial investment was 15 grand and I made 42k on paper that year with write offs, the next year i invested 25k and pulled 80, and kept climbing, this year its a bit more difficult as people are onto the buy local and sell online nitch, I believe many of the old school gun stores wich most are, im the youngest person I know in my collectibles industry and most of them are getting up there. I believe many of them will be forced to social media, websites etc.. when they do they will find out the shorter the better the .com and more sense it makes the more successful they will be. that or they will sell to younger people who will do the same. I believe that gun domains are a great LONG term investment. surely not hot right now, just before I logged on here I registered a few, and a good bit more in the last few days, im going to start expanding my business since all these new people are coming in my self, I would say if you have the money, and you can get them for CHEAP, like all of these I bought for $8.29 at go daddy with the premium buyers discount

Glad you've been success in the firearms field Richard -- but I'd suggest that you hold off regging any more for awhile as I believe there are MUCH better (and correctly spelled) domains available in this niche that you will be able to register if you expand in to other related areas.

Of the 140 domains you have registered, only the following (20) struck me as having any real possibility of commercial potential or resale value. (Again, this is just my opinion and I'm not claiming to be all knowing... Just trying to help!)

This is a tough market to get into because of the regulations. We are not all licensed gun sellers, like you. To be honest. You've wasted your money on most of those domains. The ones which are not .com, have dashes and most of your e/i prefix domains. I've had some quality gun domains parked for years without any traffic to them. They cannot even pay for themselves with parking. I'm saying, that you seem to have started out on the wrong foot here. It would have been better to build a business with your best domain. IMHO. This has been my experience. YMMV.

You'll be selling, if you can, most of these by the end of the year. Or more likely just dropping them. This doesn't make sense because you seen to be an entrepreneur.

I'll echo stub's experience with firearms/gun domains. I had a few a number of years ago that never received any traffic so I eventually dropped them. In the last couple of years I jumped back in to the niche mostly because I found a number of pretty strong domains that might make me a few bucks one day. A few actually see 4-5 visitors a week on a consistent basis.

One of these days I'll find the time to figure out a way to use them with some affiliate programs.

(I might have even traded a couple of my dn's to you for some guns and you might have saved some money over the dn's you bought... :P )

thank you, Yea I know I wish I would have waited. It was very addicting and I new nothing and went onto godaddy and say the premium domain prices, I thought those were the values. so I spent $8k and then realized the preimum domain names werent worth that much money because of the name, it was because of the owner asking lol. Im vested now..

yea tell me about it, Im getting ready to drop more coin on 1 domain name than I spent all 609 of the ones I hand regged in the last month lol, IDIOT. I will find a way to get my money back and then some one day, one of the 609 are going to turn into a website and get sold lol, I have 1 domain that has received 342 uniques in the last month, hoping to do something with it and make some money lol.

If you develop one into a proper website weapons selling website, you should be able to make that back easily enough. But lesson learned. You did say you were already an internet firearms dealer. So seems the most logical thing to do, would be to put the two together.

thats why I bought them all anyway, was undecided on my name but for example, 123ccw.com im going to develop for sure, 360ffl.com those are simple easy money makers Ive already mastered but I have to find someone legit to do it for me. The end result of 1 site there will probably make up for it and then some but either way Im already very good with the firearms so it will be learning a journey, Im hoping to find a broker for all of my non gun sites now, every single website i regged has a business idea behind it though.. simple ones I just dont have the time to promote them, honestly the time it would take me to become a master domain broker I would probably lose 100 grand in time from firearms and then some lol.. so Im having a little fun, Im hoping to trade someone my whole portfolio aside from 15 or 20 for a 1 name...I just hope they are open to it, Im not spending another 8 grand at renewal time thats for sure lol.
