I just recieved this email from NameBay thought i would share.

Dear Sir,

Dns.be finally decides that registering a high volume of domain names does not comply with the promotional campaign and clearly indicates that each client must only register 99 domain names.
Consequently, in order to comply with DNS.be rules, all the domain names registered over 99 will be deleted.
Because we would like to let you choose your 99 .be domain names, please find attached to this e-mail a file containing the list of the registered domain names.
We kindly ask you to indicate in this file which are the 99 domain names that you want to keep absolutely and to send it back to us.
Should you fail to contact us within 48 hours, we will be constrained to delete all yours .be domain names.
We apologize to you for the inconvenience.

Do not hesitate to contact Dns.be in case you need further information : www.dns.be

Was the list of domain names included in the e-mail, or was it send as a file attachment? If it's the latter, then I would be a bit suspicious - consider how many users must have over 99 .be domains and the amount of time it would take to create individual file attachments for each users, then attach them to individual e-mails! Why not simply ask people to log into their accounts and delete the domain names that they no longer need?

And why does the e-mail come from the Legal department - it sounds like the kind of thing that Customer Service should be dealing with. I mean, there's no better way of scaring your customers off by getting them to talk to the Legal! :D

Also, their English is a bit odd, too - "DNS.be finally decides", "we will be constrained to delete". This doesn't really strike me as a particularly professional e-mail - I would definitely never send something written like that on behalf of the company I work for.

Now that I think about it, it could be an excellent way for an unscrupulous person to keep track of .be names that are about to become available for registration. They will get the list of domain names that you are keeping and will therefore see which names you wanted to delete, giving them a good opportunity to cherry-pick the ones they might want to keep for themselves.

All in all, this sounds quite fishy.

Yeah I got it as well (good thing I checked my spam folder.. that's where it was)

I don't know.. seems legit enough.. but who knows these days.

It seems as if you send them back the edited list.. they'll delete them for you. How can a scammer do that?

Still, I see nothing of this 99 domains only thing on dns.be

It seems right in line with their previous notice of explanation. I'd just reply.

What's typing out a few letters and "trimming down" to 99 names when they are given to you for free and are generating income for you as well? Still seems like a hell of a deal if you ask me..

Well it looks like there is still a sense of customer service at Namebay. Many other would not even bother to contact the customer.

BTW G_C I don't think it's phishy, it's not hard to run a script to find out how many people have more than 99 .be in their account...
NameBay is based in Monaco and they speak French. Do not expect perfect English.

It felt kind of good to trim the fat. Lord knows I had a lot of shifty german/french/dutch translation names that didn't work out so hot for me and my loved ones.

Sorry, just my Brit sence of humour :)

All the best.
