Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Tony Christopher knew his business had to change. His company, Landmark Entertainment Group, had long made rides and experiences for amusement parks and casinos. If you’ve been to Universal Studios, you’ve probably been on a ride his Los Angeles-based company designed. (They include Terminator 2 3D and Jurassic Park: The Ride.)

But Christopher says theme parks have grown conservative, and that has slowed his traditional business. A couple of years ago, he realized that it was time to own and operate his own rides. He has hatched an ambitious plan to create digital theme parks for families. Christopher plans to roll out these 200,000-square-foot facilities around China once he has secured funding.

“Take a theater, an immersive cinema, a museum, an art gallery and a zoo and we’re going to combine that with what we call experience or entertainment retail to create the shopping mall of the future,” he said.

Virtual reality helps stroke patients use weakened limbs

Virtual reality could help stroke patients recover by "tricking" them into thinking their affected limb is more accurate than it really is.

Researchers in Spain found that making the affected limb appear more effective on screen increased the chance the patient would use it in real life.

This is important because stroke victims often underuse their affected limbs, making them even weaker.

A stroke charity welcomed the study and called for more research.

In the study of 20 stroke patients, researchers sometimes enhanced the virtual representation of the patient's affected limb, making it seem faster and more accurate, but without the patient's knowledge.

After the episodes in which the limbs were made to seem more effective, the patients then went on to use them more, according to lead researcher Belen Rubio.

'Virtuous circle'
"Surprisingly, only 10 minutes of enhancement was enough to induce significant changes in the amount of spontaneous use of the affected limb," said Mrs Rubio from the Laboratory of Synthetic, Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems at Pompeu Fabra University in Spain.

"This therapy could create a virtuous circle of recovery, in which positive feedback, spontaneous arm use and motor performance can reinforce each other. Engaging patients in this ongoing cycle of spontaneous arm use, training and learning could produce a remarkable impact on their recovery process," she said.

There was an average chance of 35% that the 20-patient group chose their paretic (partially paralysed) arm to reach for something straight in front of them before the virtual reality enhancement, but an average chance of 50% afterwards, which is the same as for a healthy person.

Professor Paul Verschure, an author of the study and leader of the research group, told the BBC News website that there was now a long-term follow-up planned to see the effects of the experiment on the patients in their everyday lives.

The Stroke Association said physical rehabilitation can help rewire a stroke victim's brain.

"The results of this pilot study suggest that the power of virtual reality could be used in the future to help stroke patients build confidence in using their weakened limb, and therefore promote their recovery. Larger trials are needed establish whether this is possible," said Dr Shamim Quadir, research communications manager at the Association.

High-powered angel investors sink $2M in new virtual reality startup

A group of high-profile angel investors are betting big on new virtual reality startup Envelop VR.

The Bellevue company today announced$2 million in seed funding, including cash from Seattle angels Hank Vigil, Sujal Patel, Rudy Gadre and Geoff Entress.

Envelop VR is specializing in applications for the business world, allowing employees to work together in a virtual environment in order to more quickly solve problems. The company says one unique feature of its software will allow developers to work and create content while in their own 3D environment, eliminating the need to switch between 2D and 3D worlds.

“Virtual reality, the technology that’s been 10 years away for 40 years, is finally here,” said CEO Bob Berry, who also serves as CEO of Bellevue game studio Uber Entertainment. “Our vision at Envelop is to realize VR’s full potential and use it to enrich our lives and the world around us.”

Other Envelop VR executives include CTO Jonathan Mavor, who co-founded Uber Entertainment with Berry, and COO Steven Santamaria.

“It’s the perfect market because we have so many video game companies here, which means a wealth of real-time 3D graphics talent,” Berry said of Seattle.

The lineup of investors behind Envelop VR is impressive, with Isilion Systems co-founder Patel saying that the technology could have a big impact on how teams work together.

“I believe Envelop VR’s software will help accelerate the implementation of virtual reality by vastly improving the workflow for developers, as well as businesses who want to use the medium to help solve for critical workplace visualization challenges,” said Patel in a release. “This will allow for more quality content to be developed and ensure a much more enjoyable experience for the masses.”

Just last week, Madrona Venture Group’s Matt McIlwain said that investments in virtual reality startups would be a focus of the firm’s new $300 million fund.
