George, I think ICANN is the governing body but each registrar is required to manage it's database, see:

Bob, as for numbers; normally I remain quiet when I hear news.

But since a competitor is purchasing the domain after I chose not to outbid them (which i could have easily done) and since I was NOT asked to keep it under wraps, I decided to alert the board; but not post details

I will say this, a post on this board in the past 24 hours gave out the price range. So if you have been reading the board posts, then you have the details.

I know the question is coming, "George why didn't you outbid your competition". Easy answer. I'm cheap. Real answer. I'm cheap and just tired of the BS. Going to kick butt and take names. That is my mental model toward GEO TV.

The only Geo i can think of being mentioned in a thread recently was a 2 word US City but i may be completely wrong.

There is a second one, that I have a deal in principle. I'm waiting on the contract. This is one I've kept in contact with for a very long time and IMHO more valuable than the other one being purchased.

I never said I wasn't buying, just being selective and going for quality.

I am the same as Ronnie as i have no USA Geos either, ( apart from 50% of Lincoln.TV with John) and i am excited!.

GP very exciting news for us Geo TV owners. I can't wait to see which of your competitors is entering the Geo TV space, but it could be huge based on the recent post you made:

In reality, no .TV GEO TV owner is a competitor....

My true competitors are the Louisville.com's, Respond.com's, and Superpages.com of the world. People who are well capitalized, have a larger team than we do, and who have are well defined footprint.

Then you go on to agree your competitors are also:

Google Local, Yahoo Local, etc..as well.

So to recap, it looks like one of the following might be entering the geo space

1. Louisville.com (or some other big geo .com owner)
2. Respond.com (This would be great!)
3. Superpages.com
4. Google Local
5. Yahoo Local
6. Some other non current geo tv owner.

We know it is at least #6 as you stated directly that no current geo TV owner is a competitor. I concur with this statement and can't wait to find out this exciting news! As far the geo you are purchasing this is also great news as well for all current geo TV owners as it is always nice to get these powerful names out of the hands of people who do not have the ability to do anything with them and into the hands of somebody you can.

You are correct I shouldn't have said competitor.

In fact, this company has done more for me than they realize. I've gotten several calls from other GEO TV owners, several whom I've never spoken to before, which were contacted by the company and who want to join Channel Local.

Normally the conversation goes like this "some other company called me and pressured me into joining their network. Do you know this company? I understand you are forming a GEO TV network, I would like to ask some questions". The conversation ends with me sending a contract and them expressing interest in joining. These are mostly cold calls. I wasn't even contacting other GEO TV owners til we launched.
