I registered a domain today in .com. The .net, .info and .org where all registered already. I check the who is and they were all registered on the same day 1-20-2018. They were all registered for 5 years and the .info and the .org were updated on 3-18-2018.
1. Why would someone register .net, .org and .info and not .com?
2. Does "Updated" mean there was an ownership transfer?
3. What constitutes a "updated" status with icann?
Thanks for any insight into this. I have never seen someone register all 3 without the .com before especially for 5 years like they have some kind of plan for the name.

Maybe the owner of the dot com died and then carelessly let it expire.

How care-less that would be.
What really strikes as odd though is that it is a so so name at best.

I often factor that in my search filters when buying a dot com, how many other extensions are registered.. most likely they did not know it was dropping or available on the aftermarket. Updated could be a number of things like ownership transfer, changes in nameservers, or renewals.

That sounds like the most plausible situation. I'll share the domain name
chainblockbuster. It is a so, so name. I will have to hold for awhile before I sell it. Or maybe I have a buyer already, if that was the case? They have privacy on the domain name. I will just list and let sit.
Thanks for the input.
