Dynadot โ€” .com Transfer

What's your experience with grabbing a .com when you see other extensions taken?

I regged a .com yesterday. .net/.org/.info/.biz were all registered on the same day in 2003. For 5 years each. By the same guy. Apparently, the .com was taken at that time by someone else (accourding to Wayback), but got dropped since then.
The domain is a very specific 3-worder and there're no websites on other TLDs.

I think that, given the circumstances, the odds of the guy wanting the .com are well worth gambling a few dollars.

Question: what's you success rate in these situations?

not been in the situation myself - but your situation sounds very promising. You can either develop the site and increase traffic or contact the owner of the other tld's and sell the domain to him for top dollars :)

If it's a .com you can't go wrong anyways..if the other tld's are developed you're most likely the one who'll profit off of them - because as we all know, most people think of .com first. Then again it also depends on the domain name.

I would go ahead and reg. it. If he has the rest, expecially for that period of time, I'm sure he would want the .com.

I have had good success on a number of occasions selling the dot com name to someone who holds some of the other extensions, particularly if they have already developed at least one of the other extensions.

In a number of cases the other guy came to me within a week of the dot com dropping to buy it off me.
