Very Cool Product

Mods--not sure if this goes here, but since I'm using it to track domain hits...


I just discovered a free product called CrazyEgg.com that I'm testing out to track and see exactly where visitors click on my domain website.

It tracks any click anyone does on your site...shows a graphical overlay with each specific point marked, listed or shown with stats.

Now I can see exactly which domains are clicked on...if banners are clicked, searches, ads or whatever.

The free product tracks up to 5,000 clicks per month on up to 4 pages and updates every few hours. Has pay-for upgrade packages, too.

Have included a screenshot showing the overlay w/stats.

Wish I had thought of this; it's pretty darn cool.

They have the right idea - and a drop-dead gorgeous UI. I quit using it almost right away (a couple weeks ago) because of network latency. This is one of those heavy-handed javascript apps like google analytics that is totally at the mercy of their server(s). If they don't keep scaling their infrastructure to meet demand, you end up with pages that just can't finish loading - I lose patience.

I said they have the right idea because this is definitely the way to go with web-based services. But it takes some dilligent work to pare down the size of the JS include files. Google seems to have gotten past this with analytics (better than they did with spreadsheets) but for a smaller company its really gonna be a challenge. Good luck to them, and in the meantime keep it at the VERY BOTTOM of the page...
