Verisign & GreatDomains?

I have noticed that many people have been buying .TV lately, at least NPers that I can see from posts, to include myself. I am also sure many submit names to Great Domains, the exclusive listing venue. What I am finding interesting is that GD is now listing a whole bunch of .TV names. Verisign owns .TV corporation and Great Domains. Do you think they are showcasing to drum up activity? What are your thoughts? To honest, I like .TVs if they name flows well with the extension. What I think is hindering the reselling and development is the pricetag .TV corp is putting on premium names, etc. Some are so high that you could go out and by the .com outright if you think about what you will spend on the yearly cost for a premium name, IMOH

:bingo:

I would also concur with respect to your observation of the ".TV" registration "premium" pricing, as well ... and I think even they recognized that these ranges are beyond comical, really and may be moving toward more normal pricing, IMHO. I've never held out much hope for the (.TV) Tuvalu's, also to be honest.
Enjoy!

I've also had .tvs rejected by them, by the way, it's not like they are accepting names that aren't meeting whatever criteria they have........

Well Jeff without your hope .tv is doing pretty well and no verisign does not think their pricing is comical we might but I have spoken to them and they have actually raised prices. The ext continues to grow with 70% of all names regged at Verisign developed. .tv is not a domainer ext they have made that clear with their pricing and by statements made. AND please stop calling it the tuvalu JEFF it shows a real ignorance the tuvalu govt did a deal with Verisign several years ago and since then has been marketed as DOT TV

UFC.tv
TNT.tv
WE.tv
MTV.tv
Bizhub.tv
Five.tv
H2o.tv
Fuel.tv
quickclicks.tv
See.tv and 1000's of others do not market their site as . tuvalu

I'm happily among that group :hehe:

"exclusive listing"....No, there is no stipulation in the contracts with GreatDomains that restricts you from listing them elsewhere. Thank goodness, otherwise most GD sellers wouldn't dare use them. :]

What I am finding interesting is that GD is now listing a whole bunch of .TV names. Verisign owns .TV corporation and Great Domains. Do you think they are showcasing to drum up activity? What are your thoughts?

Anyone who claims to be able to read their reasoning (And, in fact, Verisign can "claim" any rational, rather it is entirely true or not) claims to be able to read minds. My quess (and is only a guess :hehe: ) is that they are not. They (their GreatDomains divsion) just realizes that .tv's are in fact becoming popular, as more televsion companies use the domains and the extention to the betterment of all .tv owners through their advertising with and use of them.

To honest, I like .TVs if they name flows well with the extension.

That (does it fit television) is the all important factor :imho:

What I think is hindering the reselling and development is the pricetag .TV corp is putting on premium names, etc. Some are so high that you could go out and by the .com outright if you think about what you will spend on the yearly cost for a premium name, IMOH

May be true somewhat...But, that comes back to what the extention is good for in the first place. Would I rather own Childrens.com or Childrens.tv, if I was in a position (especially one where the .tv extention works for like a TV network CEO) to own, develope, and exploit either one to its full potential ? Childrens.tv for me!:p

Just the way I see it :imho:

so would any of you guys consider buying a few premium($500) domains or are they all worthless? Some have 300k-700k overture w/o extension

Who said they were worthless? .tv is a development ext and an end user sales environment it is not a domainer ext. IF you are regging a name at $500 or $750 or whatever amount it should be because you have a plan. A company from Holland just put out over xxx,xxx to reg MEN and WOMEN.tv I am sure they are not domainers but end users. Concert.tv is avail for $10,000 great name But not to flip to develop a business aorund If one does not have that budget and that goal then that is not a name to register. If you look at 2005 the highest reported sale for .biz .info .us or .tv is a .tv, Travel.tv at $65,000 but the reg fees of men and women.tv were even greater than that.

Unlike other ext advocates .tvers do not want to have everyone join in and take the kool aid, stay out .tv sucks Ilikeitintherear.com now thats a domain

Guess Who's Coming to (.TV) Dinner

"What I am finding interesting is that GD is now listing a whole bunch of .TV names. Verisign owns .TV corporation and Great Domains. Do you think they are showcasing to drum up activity?"

I don't think so. The list of recently rejected .TV's is quite long. I still do not understand why they would reject domains they sold in the first place.

Yes, I have noticed an upswing in .TV's bought by NP members. I have been holding on to my .TV's for years now... but when a neighbor surprised me the other day with an offer to buy TheHill.TV, that I dev'd into a local site, from me I actually considered it... as I may be moving.

It's obvious that .TV's are being increasingly accepted by virtually all sectors of society. Domainers, IMHO, have been the slowest to warm-up the ext.. So while most domainers still give .TV the cold shoulder it is good to see some break from the ranks of .com conventiality and accept a .TV into their family.

Apologize, no offense intended ... I agree that Verisign is and has been marketing the ".TV" as "Televison" (as are the ".WS" folks are with it being "Website"), IMHO. :gl:

All the best!
