Did Verisign buy the .cc rights?

.cc names drop like clockwork--until two days ago when dropping names stopped dropping, staying in Pending-Delete status for two extra days.

So, I went to enic.cc, the registrar for .cc names, to shoot off an email to ask what's going on. enic.cc is now a Verisign site. The home page is all jazzed up and the copyright is for Verisign. The contact info is now [email protected].

What does this all mean? Go to enic.ccenic.cc and check it out.

Hmmm....well, something is going on. It's too coincidental that the site is now redone, the contact info switched to enom instead of the staff at enic.cc, and the names that are supposed to drop, stopped dropping.

Yeah, there are most likely reorganizing the registry and its public face in an attempt to ramp up marketing, etc. Perhaps they have finished integrating the registry into their infastructure years after the acquisition went down...

Sounds like the value of cc's could be going up. But, I've been predicting that (and experiencing that in my sales) for a while.

Nice, what have your sales patterns been over the past 6 months for .cc?

Lots of offers, and names being snapped up quickly. My few sales have been very profitable. I say few because I'm holding them unless I get offers I cannot resist.

Sounds as if Verisign are boosting up their marketing for cc. They've probably let it stagnate a bit from their own point of view, and are moving it up onto equal footing with the other extensions they control.

Just curious where you are going to backorder .cc domains... I haven't seen any registrar that has offered this service.

Hi Slobizman,

Maybe this email I got a few days ago has something to do with it :

eNom has built its reputation on providing the highest quality customer service and cutting edge domain management tools. You can be assured we are committed to providing you with a seamless transition as new registrar for your .CC domain names.

In the next few days you will receive a follow up email from us with all the information you need to continue to manage your account. Until then please continue to use the enic.cc homepage to administrate your domain as usual.
Questions? Please refer to the email sent separately yesterday by the eNic Corporation which addresses everything from passwords and email to domain forwarding and management. If you did not receive that mail, you can find a copy posted on the enic.cc website.

Until the transition is complete, please address any additional questions via email to the eNic Corporation. You may also phone +1 (703) 376-0001 or toll-free in the US and Canada at (800) 255-2218, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.

Thanks Johntv. Please keep on posting any correspondence you get from them.

I called the enic 7 - 7 est number and it answered as an enom 9 -9 est number.

Maybe as an apparent customer of their, you can cask them why their names are no longer dropping. If you would.

Here is something else announced from enom today, but I don't see .cc's in Google Apps for Your Domain

eNom, Inc. (www.enom.com), the largest ICANN accredited wholesale domain registrar, announced today it has partnered with Google to enable the new domain registration services feature in Google Apps for Your Domain. The feature is available starting today as part of the sign-up process for Google Apps for Your Domain (www.google.com/a).

"One of the main objectives in the Demand Media-eNom merger was to expand our world class domain services to leading new media companies," said Paul Stahura, eNom founder/CEO and president of Demand Media. "This relationship with Google clearly demonstrates that expanded focus and we are excited to offer Google our leading infrastructure, tools and domain knowledge."

Google Apps for Your Domain is a platform that allows organizations of any size to offer powerful communication and collaboration tools to their users -- and have them all hosted by Google so there's no hardware or software to install or maintain. eNom will power private domain registration and identity protection for a $10 annual fee, and includes domains at .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz.

"We are excited to partner with an industry leader like eNom who can help ensure that organizations have a great experience getting their own domain," said Raju Gulabani, director of product management for Google Apps for Your Domain. "It's important to have their scale, reliability, and customer focus working behind the scenes of Google Apps for Your Domain."

"We hope that today's announcement, combined with the .tv announcement earlier this week, demonstrates our strategy of building a new media company on top of a leading domain registrar platform," said Richard Rosenblatt, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Demand Media. "We look forward to rolling out more partnerships and technologies in the coming months."

Fourth day in a ow now. No drops. Some names have been in pending-delete status now for 9 days, instead of the usual 5. I assume this is against ICANN rules right? How can enom get away with this?

I imagine that ICANN is not stopping them in an attempt to get the involved parties into sync with eachother, eNic or .cc, Verisign, eNom etc. etc., and that they would be happier if there was one less registry to monitor and it is with Verisign years after the deal went down.

Looks like Enom has really taken over the .cc extension and is changing the '.cc name drop rules'.
