Value of a .travel

I'm looking into buying (with the intention of reselling) a .travel domain. But they cost quite a bit! I really don't mind the expense, but will I be able to profit from a .travel or should I stick to .com?

Also, does anyone know why the .travel costs so much? %%-

In order to register a domain name, you must be Authenticated as a legitimate service and product provider in the travel and tourism industry.
Requirements for Authentication

1. Your business or service must fall into at least one of the 20 defined Travel Industry Segments.
2. You must agree to the .travel Terms and Conditions.
3. You must adhere to the .travel Name Selection Policies in choosing domain names.

You can't register a .travel domain name without being a real "service and product provider in the travel and tourism industry."

Well it's a big no-no as the TLD kinda sucks: nobody wants it. Besides,...

... It is restricted to the use of travel agents, airlines, bed and breakfast operators, tourism bureaus, and others in the travel industry.
So it is not meant as an investment, if you are allowed to resell it will be to a qualifying entity only (good luck finding a buyer).

You won't benefit from a .travel because the TLD is not well developed, there is near-zero industry recognition and no consumer awareness, there is no type-in etc. Even those in the industry can go (and do) without.
PS: the registry is even facing bankruptcy; it doesn't mean the TLD will be phazed out though, unless of course nobody else wants to take over - which is likely ;)

.travel is indeed for travel industry people only, I know, I own one. To say it sucks is ridiculous TBH. It is primarily being used within the industry at first but will become more well known I think in time because of its "official" nature. Canada.travel is a great example of what is being done with it. But it is not a domainers domain, if they catch a fake owner they will boot you.

You can register as a real company though, and then sell the company with the domain asset. Not all domains are sold as a domain only. You can legally and ethically work within the rules of each registry if you read and understand them.
