Getting retail prices for valuable domain names is difficult. Despite the fact that the market for domain name assets has matured over the last 20 years, the nature of the market makes it challenging to sell assets at their full value. I am sure the owners of high value domain names appreciate the regular interest from prospective buyers of these domain names. The reality is that getting a buyer to pay what a domain name is worth is quite difficult...

Hi

didn't read the rest, but..

The reality is that getting a buyer to pay what a domain name is worth is quite difficult...

that phrase, which i agree with, is quite the opposite of what many here continue to repeat to each other.

as they state that.... a domain name is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay

some of the same words used, but their meanings are totally different

imo....

Worth and what someone will pay don't seem to be related these days. You only have to look at the worthless derivatives that are selling for billions in interbank trading to realise this. Also some supermarkets seem to be able to sell lower quality for higher prices, and people constantly say what amazing value they are getting.

If someone overpays for a domain name, do we assume that this is now the new value, and who determines if the price was too high?

overpaying, is often seen from the perspective of those who see value, as of, today.

and, if the domain was sold, then the price couldn't have been too high.

and, what "you assume" the "new value" is... most likely will be irrelevant to the new owner.

those who are willing to pay more, than what others see as "current market price ranges", often have a vision that extends much farther than what "snapshot viewers" are willing to pay.

sure, there are obvious instances where a "head-scratcher" sale is made, but only in the future can one say for sure, that they overpaid for the domain, in the past.

imo....
