Using Google Adwords to check the popularity of search words/phrases

Hi guys,

I seem to remember there was a url you could use on Google to check the popularity of search phrases - via checking how much it would cost to advertise on that keyword. Anyone know the url? Does it still exist? I seem to be even having trouble getting the info via the more drawn out process of trying to make a Google ad, with Google wanting payment information off me before seemingly it will tell me anything, are they tightening up?

I notice inventory.overture.com seems to have disappeared too, with the url forwarding to yahoo business (I've been out of the loop a while, so I'm not sure how long that's been gone).

Alternatively, has anyone got any good alterative resources?

I have found Microsoft Ad Center to be pretty good all around. But the good old days are gone, probably forever.
