I just ordered FrontPage, anyone have any experience with it? I have never designed a webpage before, is it easy to use? What are your thoughts and experiences with it?

Ah i remember the good ol' days of frontpage.

I thought i was really good with it - then i got my hands on dreamweaver - and havnt used frontpage since.

Basic tools that you use in word and other Microsoft progs.

Its great for a bit of experience with basic html... But dreamweaver (MX Studio) Is definetly the way to go :imho:

FrontPage is fairy easy to use and is very well done for beginners. I think it also has tutorials, if not they will have them online somewhere. I would recommend when you get better with frontpage to learn how to start coding as well.

I love frontpage just for drawing tables and adding all of the backgrounds and crap just to make things quicker. After I do all of that, I mess with the code to suit my likings. Lately I haven't used it though.

LOL, interesting post :P. Good to see your from Australia :D.

Anyhow FrontPage is well, IMHO not very good :). Sure it's WYSIWYG but there are many downsides. One is that alot of the time frontpage creates messy code which is non-standard, and has errors in custom border colors which wont work in FF, only IE...

For a beginner, I would highly reccommend it though, but only so that you can create a table, then check out the code... change the font, then check out the code so that you teach yourself html... NOTHING beats hand written html if you know what your doing.

Best of luck, Regards, Rhett.

Where can you buy Dreamweaver and is it beginner friendly as I have never done anything in HTML before, complete novice.

I've never used any of these, only Nescape Composer in the ancient days :) I'm sure FP is good to start but please promise you'll learn XHTML+CSS soon.

IMO if your planning to learn html code to write your own pages, i'd recommend frontpage to create tables, paragraphs etc etc and then have a look at the html code to learn.
Frontpage does suck for actualy creating webpages, but once you learn the code from it, youll see what parts of the code frontpage creates isnt really needed, and youll exclude it from your hand written code, making it quicker to load, and nice n neat :).

hehe, dont worry html is easy to pick up. I think that with just a html editor like frontpage youll be able to learn it. Its very simple indeed, http://www.w3schools.com check that out for all your basic coding, youl lsee after a while its very simple.

Good luck!

Don't use FrontPage, it has problems. ... really, you have more control over your webpage with raw HTML.

I still use it sometimes, pretty good to look up some quick coding things, not good for much more. Although I have the 2002 version... IDK about improvements in 2005.

Well, I ordered it a couple days back and can't stop the order now, but I guess I can at least learn from it with some books on the side before I invest in more expensive tools or program and tweak myself.

Definitely. I learned HTM with it myself, very good to start with (however, hard to get used to if you're used to Firefox).

I've never actually used frontpage myself, I started out using CuteSitebuilder then moved on to HTML for dummies, I've worked on some sites that were made using frontpage though and the code was crappy for the most part.

I highly recommend FrontPage. Really the people that don't like FrontPage are designers. I on the other hand am not a designer and the fastest, easiest way for me to add content to my HTML based sites is through FrontPage. FrontPage is extremely easy to use if you know how to use Word and other Microsoft products. Of course like everyone else I would recommend you learn HTML and whatever else later.

Thanks everyone, this has been very informative to me. Boy I have a lot to learn. My first step was buying domains and now I have a bunch. Of course they are for sale but surely I would like to do something with some of them and try and earn some monies. So the two things I need to learn are web designing and how to establish traffic and click revenue. Too much to do and so little time. But heh, it will be exciting nonetheless.
