Using FrontPage

I just ordered FrontPage, anyone have any experience with it? I have never designed a webpage before, is it easy to use? What are your thoughts and experiences with it?

FrontPage is good for beginners in web designing and is an easy way to learn some basic tags. The best feature of FrontPage is that FP and Microsoft Word have almost identical user interfaces, at least the page editing part. So it makes it easier for those familiar familiar with MS Office.

Other than that, it produces IE-specific code, and the amount of code it produces is huge.

Microsoft software is some of the most confusing and buggiest stuff I've ever used, I should know because I used to know Word surprisingly well.

I'm going to give it a go later and see how it handles html.

This is a great time to learn. When you compose your first FrontPage site view it in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, which can be found at www.mozilla.com. See if you can note any key differences in how it is displayed. Then I would recommend posting your site in one of the forums and ask how to fix the errors. This is the way I started, only with Dreamweaver. Also, if you ever get the chance, try to learn CSS. Cascading Style Sheets are very nice for web design. If you ever need any programming help, let me know.

Well if you never designed a webpage before , you should start with frontpage yes.
Or maybe try dreamweaver first.
When i used frontpage , i tried dreamweaver once , and i was like WOW this is complicated.

Then months later i started really using it , and starting to see how easy it actually is ,
so base line is = Dreamweaver is Best

I used FrontPage at first, but then it didn't do everything I wanted to. One day I switched to Dreamweaver and I haven't looked back.

I dont suggest using FP.

Try Dreamweaver.

Started on a FP template years ago. I had a karate related site and 10 MB hosting. Imagine I had 3 MB used by the site (just 30 pages) because FP would make some directories appear more than once (the images directories were doubled for the pages) ... After some time a coleague recommended Dreamweaver. I had the site in 0.3 MB as soon as I converted :D

So ... FP .. not good. Lousy code, lousy interface. better get on dreamweaver ASAP

Front Page 2003 is a terrific product . It will do everything and then some .

You have 4 main views ..

Split:
and Preview

Design View:

Allows to to actually build your pages and add content without needing to understand code: html

From design view you can add tables , pictures, photos ,graphics text web components like spreedsheets , web search ,photo galleries , include pages ,marqees ,interactive buttons ,javascripts , movies formats and so much more with just a few clicks of the mouse .

In Code view you get the actual code and can make changes in that view whenever you like.

Split view is terriffic especially for the newbie because it shows both Code view and design view in a split page ..as you are working in design view you actually see the code being inserted into code view..so you are learning about code as you areactually working.

Preview mode lets you see what your pages will look like in any bowser in any size .. beautiful.. you dont get that out of using notepad

You need to decide..do you wnat to be acode geek or do you want to build webpages ?

Coding is fine for those that have nothing but time on their hands ..but for actual PRODUCTION ..use FP or dreamweaver .

I currently use FrontPage, its ok. I have not really learned CSS or HTML yet though I plan to look into it sooner or later. If you want an example the site in my sig.(greengambler.com) was designed w/ FrontPage. I've moved on since though come back from time to time do updates. It was my 2nd try w/ FrontPage I'm on my 3rd now and things are looking even better. After you learn the nuances you can really design pages quickly.


What about the "nvu" that Rowan W suggested, anybody used that yet?
