I've got a name with an expiration date of 2/9/06 (four days from now). I want to transfer it from where it is now (OpenSRS) to another registrar (goDaddy) before renewing it. Can I initiate the transfer this close to my expiration date? Since it takes up to a week to transfer sometimes, what happens on the 9th when my expiration date comes up if I'm in the middle of a transfer?

I don't want to lose it and am wondering I had better just renew it at the current registrar (but I don't want to).

usually it will not expire that day, they will give you a little leeway, I dont see why you couldnt transfer it.

Dont worry! You will have 75 extra days ........... in the meanwhile you will be able to renew it. Iam not sure about transfer. I think you will be able to do it!

Good luck :tu:

yes they do give you a little time, also if you are transferring it i dont think they should expire it in the way. Or if you want to keep the domain ... renew it and then expire it only cost 16 $ :)

Not true unless you don't mind spending $250 for the renewal. Your time frame to renew after the expire date is determined by the registrar. It can be as many as 45 days to as little as a day. After the expiry and hits redemption, you're looking at as much as $250+

If you're name is at Namesystem, you've got 5 days after expiration before going to redemption (I know first hand). If you plug the name into the transfer at GD it will tell you if it can be transfered, and with 4 days left you should have no problem. Best to always check with the existing registrar on their expiry/redemption policy.

Good luck with your transfer, slobizman!

Make sure it's unlocked and you're able to confirm it with both sides as soon
as possible. The sooner it's especially authorized with the losing one (although
it's not really needed anymore nowadays), the sooner it'll be moved out.
