I have hardly ever let a good domain expire and I have never let a domain expire at namesilo earlier so this is new to me. Basically I just want to transfer away the domain. But I could not get an auth code.

Currently this domain has a status of Expired (grace period). When I click the domain to get the control tools it displays the following message.
Was it always like this ? Is there a way to get around this ?

PS - Even the push domain option does not work.

Nope, NameSilo keeps domains hostage to resell them. Make sure you renew them before the 25th day after expiration if you don't want to lose it.

this is the case with most registrar,

you need to contact the support, they can unlock the domain and generate a transfer code
