No matter what domain I tried to register,It gets added to my cart and then this is what I get

The registry has reserved these.ukdomains for anyone who registered the matching .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk domains before June 10, 2014. Those registrants have until June 10, 2019 to claim their.uk domain

Which is in a way saying that someone who ownes the .co.uk etc only get the chance to register those specific .uk domains till 2019!.

You are right, but final cut off date was 10 june, 2014.. For any domains dropping after that either version (.co.uk or .uk) is free to register..

Yes, so that means that if the .co.uk (or any other uk version for that matter) wasn't registered by the 28th October 2013, it's available to anyone to register.

Incorrect - that is when the .UK domain was launched. If you own the .co.uk (or the .org.uk if the .co.uk wasn't registered), you have the rights over the .UK until June 2019.

I know this as I work directly with Nominet - and it's on their website.

Ahh, I misread your other post - I thought you were saying all .UK domains were available to everyone after June 2014.

I wonder if it's a glitch with GoDaddy as I recently bought a LLL.co.uk and had it put to my GoDaddy account. The domain I bought was registered originally before the deadline but then as far as I know it dropped and was caught and then sold to me buy the catcher. When I looked up on nominet who owns the rights to the .uk it says the .co.uk registrant although it doesn't show my whois as it does with some other look ups I've done and when I tried to register the .uk at GoDaddy I got the same message Miks got even though I have the .co.uk registered with them.

If I understand correctly domain was caught after 10 june 2014 right?

Obviously if you let the original .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk domain that has .uk rights drop, with that you lose rights for .uk and it's should be up for grabs..

Now, it's different matter on let's say .co.uk had original rights for .uk domain and is dropped, if there is next in line such as: .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk that comes in play!

I am no expert, but might be able shed some light on it.

Thanks for the offer Dapper but you've spured me on to do some digging of my own. First port of call was godaddy who told me the domain was unavailable even though their search results said it was and nominets search results said it was unregistered and the rights were mine as the .co.uk registrant. As non-uk citizen I am having problems registering .UK domains since I do not have address in UK. Is there a way to go around? Is it possible to tranfer .uk domain to person without UK address?

Will they plan on forwarding the .uk to their .co.uk domain, or vice versa,? Which will they plan to visibly market?

I haven't seen any .uk site yet apart from Domainlore.uk. I think most companies/sites will just keep the .uk unregistered until the deadline or register it but not publish it in any way because the general public just aren't aware that a .uk exists yet and therefore it won't attract any traffic. Even if the .co.uk redirects to a .uk most people wont take any notice of the address bar. It will take companies to be named as xxxxxxx.uk to get the word out. Maybe in time it'll become the go to extension but it'll have to go some to out-do the years of .co.uk dominance. Incidentally today I saw a new extension in use in the real world for the first time! A .london on the side of a van. I thought the geographical would be the least used but shows what I know. Who knows, maybe the new names will take off after all.....although I don't see it.

I wasn't aware of this so thanks for the heads up. I've actually never sold a UK domain, only bought them... might have the wrong idea about domaining lol, but as they are mostly at GoDaddy it's good to know they can be moved easily now.

GoDaddy should never have been charging for this. You can transfer a UK domain name for free just by changing the IPS tag - that's how Nominet has had it for as long as I can remember. It's a bit cheeky that GoDaddy were charging when it required even less effort than transferring to another provider.

I wonder what nominets rationale was in giving people 5 years in which to register .UK
I can understand the transition period, but 5 years seems a little long a timeframe? It might encourage people 'go to sleep'- waking up to chaotic last minute registrations..
