Two weeks without a reply probably sums it up better than words would...

Worth little to nothing until the country itself has a higher internet penetration and rapidly developping economy and/or tourism.

Yes, but how many of them have access to the internet? Africa is behind on the other continents when it comes to internet penetration.

Also, a lot of African registries are quite poorly operated, which leads locals to use .com or other generic domains instead. To give an example: .bf (Burkina Faso) had its registry down for a really long time, and thus new registrations were close to impossible. Some others involve a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy. Many African websites use .com or other generic domains rather than the local ccTLD. I would say the average African country-code extention is more risky to invest in than the ccTLD's of countries in other continents. Asia and South America are rapidly catching up with Europe and North America when it comes to internet penetration, but Africa unfortunately still has a long way to go :(

If you are considering African TLDs, .co.za is probably most stable and valuable.
.ma would be worth a look possibly. Most others, I wouldn't touch at this time. They are not all in shambles but they are not used a lot in general, and are often restricted and quite bureaucratic.

PS: not so long ago, uganda.ug was available.
I could have grabbed it. Somebody else did and it's parked at Sedo.
Says a lot.

I think it could be repossessed sooner or later, so I passed on the opportunity :]

They may be worth very little right now, but I have regged a few and look forward to see what they can attract maybe 10 years from now.

If you want to register, https://www.registry.co.ug/ is probably the cheapest choice - and they have so far responded to my inquiries...

Do you know where we can register .ma's ? preferably a registrar who can also provide local contact for registration.

Indeed, .ma and .co.za by far the most stable bets in Africa. .eg and .dz also widely used by very bureaucratic and painful registration process.

Interestingly how Congo, despite having the .cd extention, failed to make lots of profits from it. If they branded it to the music industry it could be big.

.cf and .bf - don't touch with a long stick, registry is down more often than up...

They have not provided support via email to my questions.

Given recent developments I'd even stay away from .eg until the country is stable again. I agree with the statement that .ma and .co.za are valuable, but the rest of the continent is wasteland for now. Maybe things will change once internet becomes more omnipresent in Africa, or when Cameroon or Congo manage to cash in on their ccTLD in the way Tuvalu or Micronesia did.
