Ok, let's break up the toy/vagina thread a little ;)
(Nothing against Jimbojimbo's great catch, just thought the thread sidetracked somewhat)
...
Alright, I know this is not the place to state anything negative about .tv, but imho I must agree with snoop that .tv can compete more at the .info level now, definitely not .net!
...
Let's not get carried away here, .tv is a niche domain and lots of great keywords will NOT work well with .tv.
I do have some serious "investments" in .TV so I wish it all the best! ...but it will never be a "generic" extension like .net!
...

I have seen on my .tv extensions get more type-ins each month, some are getting 50-100 type-ins a day now. I have seen many of my .com's and .nets get less type-ins each month. Many are these name I have had for 10 years now, both in .com/.net and .tv. I see the trends happening and #'s don't lie.

Thanks, Jim

The future is what you make it. The bottom line is extensions are providers of opportunity.

In 2002 .com offered a lot of opportunity. Let's pick one niche. LLL.com. People were able to pick them up cheaply sometimes for a couple hundred dollars and they had a steady incline for years. Now if we look to 2008, .com is still #1 no doubt. LLL.com are not providing the same opportunity in 2008 though. They topped out on a wholesale pricing level.

.TV provided opportunity in 2004 where names like LCD.tv, Videos.tv and Joy.tv for example were hand regged for non premium. The opportunity continued for a couple years and then topped out.

The other opportunity .tv provided was access to strong keywords in an extension that is universally known in all languages. Many who came to the .tv sub forum in 2005 were not .com domainers. A few were like Rhee and RL and Fin, but not many. Most of these new domainers/developers could never have gotten the keyword in .com they got in .tv. Personally I could have never afforded LCD.com or Six.com.

Now we have another opportunity, a lot of great keywords released at a discount and no more premium renewal pricing. It has brought new people into the extension. I have gotten calls and emails from people who said thank you for all the info, I can finally afford to partake. These are new people never owned .tv.

As with everything there are two sides to the coin. When there was a small group of .tvers who did their research they had a decent advantage. You could leverage the premium list, knowing most likely no one would pay $5000 or $10,000 or $100,000 per year, you could feel good owning the non premium singular or plural .tv. You could feel good owning a comparable non premium .tv. Now they are available.

From a domainer to domainer standpoint, everybody regged some so who are you selling to ? You may have a few great .tv for sale. But now a lot of people do. Before only a few people had "GREAT".tv for sale.

So now is really the time to focus on either development or finding end users. 500 .tv on BIDO will not work.

Imo the time for talking about the extension is over too. It does not matter what snoop, jeff, rhee, millers or myself etc... think about .tv. Its now time for the DO, there is nothing left to discuss except for mental masturbation. Everyone has their names, a lot more people own .tv this week than did last week. Its time to do something, anything whatever it is. The new talk should be development, marketing and monetization. Domaining is not a team sport and those who do will have a different .tv future than those sitting on a forum doing nothing else. Again IMO

Nice to see you back Roy, you got some good new .tv.

Exactly.

It appears that vagina got slammed :hehe:

But really I think the fact that so much prime, unregged inventory is sitting on the shelves is bad for .tv. It just shows that people are not even willing to spend low $xxx for a great name. That does'nt mean a select few names will not sell for big money but as a whole I'd say valuation is low.

Or maybe they are just not great names. I went through a couple of thousand names and would not register most of them for reg fee. And the few that I liked was too expensive for my liking.

If you are looking at valuation at this premature date you are definitely a 20th century .commer. This is a new cultural change taking hold and with it the whole mindset of how the domainers practiced their arts are more or less fast becoming, shall I say, obsolete. Get with the 21st program and you will be able to swim with the school.

Take time to learn.

LOL I'm 21st bud and my mobi portfolio will show it, for better or worse. Maybe all those triple premium LLL.tv will get eaten up quick and maybe all those unregged keywords will get scooped up in a hurry. But as of now they sit with no takers and at low prices. I'm not against .tv and even seek to buy a LL as we speak but I just don't see valuation in the extention taking a serious upward turn anytime soon. It's really the old principle of supply and demand...right now the supply outweighs the demand by a long shot.

Apologies...

It's all good, keithmt. All I mean is that, at this premature stage, valuation is far removed from the front row and should be thought of later, as it will be put into play. That is a given.

There is an oversatauration of great names and right now it is not a bad but a good thing, as there has been a drought on the extension for years.

So enjoy the rain while it lasts and we will be able to reap the fruits of our labor with the coming harvest.

When is harvest? :)

...barring any drought or plaque of locusts and the resiliency of the economy to once again rebound and flex its muscle as it has done historically, it shouldn't be too far off the horizon. Can't give a definite time, but you will know it when it comes.
