i'm sort of new to the whole domain investing business. but, i see some .tv's are selling for high $x,xxx values...yet on the other hand i just went to this guys thread;

http://www.namepros.com/tv-marketplace/570323-another-tv-sale-starting-only-1-a.html

and he's selling dies.tv for $5??? dies is a real and short word...why is it not worth anything?

i guess what i'm asking is, what are the best types of names for the .tv extension?? are real/short words not worth anything?

:?

dies.tv is worth nothing. Pick a valuable domain with significant search traffic on google like travel, vacations, lawyers, televisions, video, new york, mexico, photographer, shows....

If you think dies.tv is worth something, may I suggest you not invest in domains until you spend a week or two watch the marketplace and the appraisal threads.

Dies.tv was originally purchased because of what it stood for in German - This.tv
As the European .tv market is significantly ahead of the US, I believed that this was possibly a good investment.

Had it been the English version of "This.tv" I would be looking at a current premium fee of $500/yr and probably more if it is allowed to drop.

This domain has received traffic and some revenue, but no previous offers. As I am a domainer, not a developer, I make money from selling domains.

As I have a number of renewals over the next couple of months I have selected a number of domains I am willing to let go. The $1 start is to encourage offers, believe me there is no way I am expecting only one dollar for a domain but if that is where it ends then I have to swallow it and move on.

To state that dies.tv is worth nothing is only one persons viewpoint, and I respect that, however I think you have to be prepared to look at this from a different angle.
If the right German buyer came along it would certainly be worth a nice sum.

I also think This.TV is worth nothing. At least I'm consistent.

I tried to sell died.tv here not too long ago, and I think that's a better one than "dies," but no luck either. Ended up letting it drop.

Now DigitalCamera.tv. That has good value IMHO. A $4K asking price is right in line with the value of that domain.

So, you put that one to rest, did ya? May he rest in peace ;)

I own Die.tv. It's a $500 premium and since it's registered through 2010 I am holding on to it. However, I don't even know if I will renew it at that price later on. What do you guys think?

This is another that is open to interpretation. This is also a German word, Die = The ....... which could obviously read as 'The.tv' in German.

It is also a dictionary word LLL.tv with a relatively low renewal in todays market of $500.

If you are only set on the English version of the name, then 'Die.tv' doesn't really appear to have any useful purpose other than something relating to industrial dies.

I think you need to look towards the European/German market with this domain for both resale and/or development.

I really wouldn't. Can't see any potential myself.

Len,

Thanks for the info on that. I remember when I first got the name somebody from Germany thought is was a real gem. That was the only reason why I renewed it at the time.

Thanks, Jim

Based on my own personal sales results, solid (non-premium) single-word generics are worth low $x to mid $xx in the current market. It's probably time to consider dropping all pure speculation premiums. IMHO.

No offense, but can you think of any way to use it ? I even don't know what can you do with die.com, not mention to die.tv.

Correct.

In my view, DIE.TV (as a premium) is worth a minimum of $250.00. If you renew, you're in the hole for $250.00. If the domain was a standard renewal it would be worth very low $x,xxx (min). IMO.

Well, don't forget, "die" can also refer to the meaning as in "tool and die," so maybe there's something there?

That said, I wouldn't be paying a $500 premium renewal for it.

At $500/year I would also put this name to rest.....or at least try to sell it before expiry

I will put the name to rest when it expires in 2010 unless somebody offers to buy it.
Thanks, Jim
