If not much changes after the release of the new gTLDs, if some extensions gain popularity, or whatever the outcome, .TV will still be standing strong?

.TV is already on pretty shaky grounds and hasn't really taken off.

It's only way to go short-term is to stay about the same or down.

The renewal fee is the biggest problem it has since it started and it'll have to get lower to get more momentum by domainers or smaller users.

Shaky grounds based off what? What stats do you see that suggest that? Like to be informed of that personally.

I think acceptance for .TV will grow. I don't think there will be a lively reseller market which I've never considered there to be anyway. The extension is smart to me and an excellent way to deliver rich media content.

There are small pockets of a reseller market such as specific GEOs or short .tv's which can generate a reasonable return. In the end, do you have other names you can upgrade to or do you need the cash to take off the table?

More often than not, the end user is what bodes well for .tv.

The turn around may already be here.

Whatever benefit dot tv gets out of the wave of new extension acceptance, will be counter balanced by dot video alternatives.

Video is Video in English, TV is TV universally.

'Video' recognized world over. Dis the point all you want. And lets face most people want the English speaking enduser. And no weird tiny island

Distance is measured in keystrokes rather than miles nowadays. Any new TLD which is over three characters is going to have a real struggle catching on IMHO.

I agree with Equity78 and Makis. TV is short, universal and very well established.

I predict that .video will be as popular as .travel has been :)

.TV and .Video are as related as .com and .net

As far as future proof? Nothing is future proof - except maybe Iodine-129.

...let's face it, the island may sink but tv is gonna stay in cyberspace. The abbreviated name been branded way too long to not realize that...

@johname Lets say that the new gtlds are a move forward because they let internet users type as they speak, for example visit.miami or rap.music or oldstyle.tattoo

How many phrases or words that match with .video can you think of ?
Now think again but with .tv on the end.

I think the way people consume TV shows is changing โ€” I haven't owned a TV for years, and watch everything on Hulu or Netflix. But still, when I talk about the shows I like, I still call them "TV shows."

When I'm watching YouTube videos, that's a different story.

The fact remains that .TV stands for something immediately recognizable, and that is relevant worldwide. Can .xyz claim the same thing? No.

I don't like the look of .video. If people start to adopt that over .TV or .com, I'd be surprised.

What's on..
As seen on ..(tm)

Nothing else comes to mind.

Should we add .sitcom .film .show?

For did you see.. Did you like that

Doesn't matter anyway. .TV domains are mostly brand play for the owner - are you a creator or purveyor of content? Or a curator of content? what's the medium you use to communicate your message?

.media is far more powerful than .tv for a large space that .tv occupies.

People should focus on what the name means for the owner less than how consumers view the internet. Its backwards thinking to look at consumer usage. Intelligent marketing doesn't rely on consumers but rather focuses on the message and bringing them in.

The name is just one step in that message.
