Hello NP.

I have two .tv names and wanted to develop one of them.

What is your opinion about the possiblity of good or excellent Seo positions for .tv names?

I heard that their Seo positions are usually not as good as .com or .net to start with.

I am right in assuming this or not?

Thanks.
Fabian

Excellent question and one I have been meaning to ask
myself ... personally I have not seen many .TVs in my
google searches but then again not many .TVs have been developed, although that appears to be changing.

A sub question to this would be ... would the search

engine algorithms FAVOR a .TV for certain keywords ???

Extensions bare little to no effect to search engine results.
A .ws could outrank a .tv and vice versa.

Sites with .com rank higher then with <TLD here>

This is another common myth that is untrue. The only time a domain extension can affect your ranking is if the search is based by country. The country-specific TLDs (e.g. .co.uk) will have priority over non-country specific TLDs (e.g. .com or .net).

One observation many make is that .coms tend to rank higher then other domain extensions. They assume it is because .coms are given preferential treatment. This is a poor assumption. .coms seem to rank higher then other extensions because they are by for more popular then any other domain extension (there are more .coms than .net, .org, .biz, .edu, .gov, and .info combined) so they naturally have a greater chance of ranking higher vs other domain extensions through sheer quantity alone. .coms also tend to be older sites so they have had a chance to establish themselves whereas newer domain extensions have not. They have also used this time to acquire more backlinks which is an important factor in search engine algorithms.

It is also commonly believed that .gov and .edu sites are given preferential treatment from search engines. This is also untrue. Web pages on .edu and .gov domains tend to rank well because they contain quality content and many webmasters will link to their content as a result. Both of these are key elements in SEO. But the fact that they are .edu or .gov domains does not benefit them directly in the SERPs.

Thanks Damion ...

1. therefore since .TV is for Tuvalu it is inherently

worse than a .COM ?

2. Any keywords FAVORED by the search algorithms because of the ."TV" keyword ?

1: It's not worse and not better as a .com extension. It could perform better if:

The only time a domain extension can affect your ranking is if the search is based by country. The country-specific TLDs (e.g. .co.uk) will have priority over non-country specific TLDs (e.g. .com or .net).

2: I don't see reason why any keywords would be being favored because of the .TV extension.

Yes, the extention should not and does not carry any preference in SE results. I saw .name sites coming up for some results as well as .ws while the extensions do not relate to the site. For example like games and .name

But if the search phrase does contain .tv then .tv names, if they are otherwise seo'd good, will for sure turn up and I observed that.

On another note, thats a good thing with numerous extensions. For example, let us say "freegames" is having a high OVT and its is tough to get freegames.com or .net or any but if you can pick up freegames.by and then put a site there with connecting keywords, you may end up on first page of SE results for search phrase "free games"

Even the fact or assumption that "country based searches may give preference to that country extension" is debatable. I never saw that kind of preference for google.ca results.
